I'm considering getting one of these because I can get it about $100 cheaper than the Alienware M17x I configured.

I like the power of the GT70 but I'm just unsure about the size since I will most likely be carrying it to class with me.

    What would you all recommend?

If your going to be carrying it around quite a bit then probably the GT60.

The performance is nearly the same, so you basically got to decide weather the extra 2 inches of screen is worth the extra bulk.

I personally found that while I love my machine's strength, those 2 inches I'm missing relating to a 17" machine really annoy me. I could have done with a bit bigger.
Otherwise, you're choosing between GT70 or m17x, and I find both of them awesome. I'd choose the m17x on the strict basis that i never had one.

    question of Gt60 vs GT70
    heavy vs heavier
    normal vs large
    good cooling vs better cooling

Both GT60 and GT70 are basically the same. The layout, mobo and cooling is quite the same. It will be a matter of screen size, as they will both be available with the same hardware.

I have used both, and I think GT60 will be better if you plan on carrying it around a lot and using it on the go. GT70 if you plan to take it out seldom and mostly have a good, big enough place to use it.

If you configure them similarly, then the question boils down to weight more than anything (if you're carrying it around a lot). The larger dimensions might be a little cumbersome as well, but as others have stated, the differences are not vast. Screen size is a personal preference thing.

While the cooling system is identical, the additional space in the larger chassis on the GT70 provides slightly better air circulation.

GT70 all the way. 15" is too small for me personally.
There is about 0.4kg difference between GT60 and GT70.

But dimensions do matter a lot. I can't carry around my GT70 barebone remotely the same as I could my GX660R.

For mobile users, I recommend GT60 unless you need a larger screen of the same res.

True. But personally I went from 15" before I bought this 17.3" GT70. Now I can`t go back. Would be too small :p
