GT60 one or Sager NP9150

I am considering buying a laptop with a GTX680M, I was about to decide for sager and I just found about the new msi laptop and now I am wondering which will be the best choice.

My sager config would be 1834.00 and for msi 1968.00. It is more expensive that I was planning for since I was considering the 7970m at first but I am not sure it is such a wise such anymore.
Sager is less flashy and little less expensive for the options I want.
MSI has more ram and better support from what I read. The MSI also has the steel serie keyboard and a matte screen which could be nice however I would need to change the wifi card. One thing that bothers me with MSI is this seal of guarantee, if I understand it right you can remove the cover but have to be careful not to break the seal. Considering I might want to change the hard drive for a ssd would that be a problem.

So I am curious to know the opinion of msi aficionados.

 

Actually removing the sticker will NOT void the warranty.

Just make sure not to damage anything

Someone was saying in another thread how the msi is so much better than NP9150, I wish he could elaborate.

If I get it right, with the right bios it is possible to put two ssd in raid 0.

I think I will wait for more review before deciding, the msi looks tempting though.

MSI no doubt... the MSI comes with 2 hard drives as opposed to 1 from sager, plus MSI has a better sound, better keyboard and the 680 will run smoother as well..

RAID in notebooks on non enterprise hard drives in not necessarilly a good thing.

The array can break with the slightest of errors.

I recommend buying from a reseller that customizes and ask for a non raid setup.

A single SATA III SSD as the primary boot drive will yield much better performance than raid0 on 2 hard drives with a far less chance of going bellyup.

I'm not referring to Super Raid models,only to those that are shipped stock with 2 mechanical hard drives in raid0.

MSI G series has a 2 year warranty plus 1 year global warranty plus an accidental damage warranty when registered and that in the US it's shipped with Windows 7 x64 preinstalled that's included in the stock price.

The MSI G series has MX-2 as the stock thermal compound.

Sager has a 1 year warranty for US only.No global warranty and no accidental damage warranty.

If you're outside the US and you need warranty service on a Sager you'll need to pay the shipping both ways.

If you need Windows installed on a Sager it will cost about $100 extra.

The mSATA in current Sager models is only SATA II.

 

I am being refused a return on the laptop due to the sticker being broken. Here is the quote from J&R Music and Computer World in their email to me:
"The person who called your home and spoke to your wife gave her the information regarding the seal being broken. Sir, the laptop was opened, and this voids the warranty on the unit. The manufacturer will not accept the item from us as a defective return. "

Any ideas?

 

RMA through MSI themselves? It doesn't really stand to reason that you can't upgrade or expand your own machine because of a simple warranty sticker. First thing I did when I got my GT70 was pull it apart and throw in a new HDD.

That said, with comparable specs, I'd probably still take the MSI because the Sager just looks so plain.

 

In the end I took a sager and I am happy with it. I sticked a samsung 830 and it is doing fine.

 

Clevo P150EM (Sager NP9150) has one extra slot for MSATA SSD drive, and MSI GT60 0NE-220US has 2nd Hard Drive bay. Steel Series backlit keyboard is a minor CON for MSI, because Clevo P150EM's backlit keyboard can run into different colors, too.

Look into the Msi 16f3 barebone with the gtx 680m in it! Gentechpc and Xoticpc have them on preorder and it should be a cool looking and subtle powerhouse. Although, I'd have to say I like the Sager np9150 as well because it's slightly less in weight. But the 2 are awesome machines.

 

Interesting, but does the secondary hard drive slot on the GT60 barebones allow for SATA III speeds?
