    Hello :

I got a gtx 1060 from eurocom and after installing drivers reboot i get a black screen my card is :

    vsync
    10DE 1C60 - 1462 11FF
    VBIOS 86.06.19.00.08

ive tried this on both legacy and uefi mode windows 8.1 , i currently have an unlocked bios on my laptop , AFAIK my screen is a 3k monitor ips . i went on this path because i read on tech inferno that someone successfully installed a gtx 1060 on a gt60 laptop . There are posts of fully working gtx 1060 cards on both gt60 ivy bridge and haswell models(windows 10) . Any help will be greatly appreciated .

EDIT: Problem solved , see post 3

I would try and update hat bios and EC to the latest version on MSI website. I had a similar issue back in the day when upgrading my GT60 to a 970m. Updating system BIOS and EC fixed that issue entirely.

Make sure you follow the upgrade instructions on the bios. Looks like an out of order update can cause system brick.

tanx for your response . I got it working yesterday with help of Svet , i left the ec firmware untouched and his instructions where as follows:

Install celan windows 10 (in my case i did legacy which according to him it does not make any difference)
    Update windows 10
    install modded inf file

and its working like a charm . its worth mentioning that he does not know if it will work on windows 8.1 and .what makes this work is the way the nvmii.inf file is modded . I was replacing a 1c60 entry with my gpu id (which didnt worked) so what he did is erase all 1c60 (there are 3 groupings of these)and left 1c20 in the file then i used the first 1c20 entry to replace with the gtx 1060 installed on the laptop .

    Hello!
Yesterday I installed gtx1060 (1C60) in my gt70 2OC without any major problems. .INF mod has worked, nvidia 391.35 drivers installed. But after the upgrade unfortunately, the mini display port does not work, which I used to connect the external monitor. With HDMI pluged the shortcut fn + f2 to switch between the external screen also. And what the most annoying hdmi does not transmit sound! Under playback devices I have info 'hdmi audio not plugged in' 'all the time. I installed even the oldest drivers possible for GTX 1060 from the nvidia 382 website ... but without any effect ...
I know that this is the least of the problems I could have with such an upgade, but still irritating: P

panamaniacs2011 Do you also have this problem?

Hi there, i have a GT70 2PC Dominator and i did upgrade the gpu to 1060. I do have the same problem with the mini displayport, and i if i left plugged the external monitor and start windows, it only recognize the external monitor, i can't switch between screens (external monitor and notebook monitor), i have to shut off the notebook, unplugged the external monitor (HDMI) and start windows, so i can see the notebook screen, and then i can plugged the external monitor and can switch between screen. I am looking for some help too for both problems. You are not alone :/

Unfortunately, I suspect that this is a compatibility problem GTX 1060 card with motherboard and bios or EC firmware. In any case, we can not expect full compatibility after such an unconventional swap. It's still great that this card works at all in good old gt70 :)
I don't think the official 1060 drivers would handle such an old system as mDP 1.2 unfortunately for us. Without official support, it will be rather difficult to have full plug and play functionality. But I hope I'm wrong...
In windows 10, Im able to switch between the screens using shortcut key win + p or in the screen settings. Maybe it works in your case too.
Do you have an updated bios and EC firmware?
    my bios:
    E1763IMS.51D
    EC Firmware Version
    1763EMS1.517
for the gt70 2OC and 2PC the dominator are the same, what I see.

I used to use the windows key + p but it only works if i start the notebook without the external monitor plugged and once the notebook screen is on with windows and then plug the external monitor. Buyt if i left the external monitor plugged and start the notebook, i can only use the external monitor scrren, i cant switch with the wwindows key + p.

    Bios: E1763IMS.51D
    EC: 1763EMNS1 Ver 7.17

sorry for the late response , unfortunately i dont have a mini display port monitor to test , the only problem i have ATM is games without VSYNC suffer from extreme stuttering issues , and low fps , but with vsync on they run fine, but at 60fps cap , i modded the inf file replacing my gpu id with 1c20 (my gpu is 1c60 as well ) entry because thats the only way (according to SVET) it will work . maybe if you replace another line in the inf file you could make it work?

Do you also have a problem with sound over HDMI? Or does it work normally for you?
This must be an active mDP adapter if you want it to work with gt70 / gt60

So far, I have no other problems with the card, except for the above: P
And I am very happy with the performance.

For common sense, I am more and more convinced that the mDP 1.2 has no chance to work with gtx 1060. Because the Pascal cards already support DP 1.4 ports. I conclude it after searching on the web.

How is it possible that you have generally installed the drivers by assigning the 1C60 vsync card as a 1C20 card without vsync? and only games that support vsync normally work? it's terribly confused ...
As for me, something is wrong with your vbios .. it looks like the vbios was from the 1C20 card or something

I bought my card from china, and what I noticed was also modified
I have a very unusual card id.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
From what I've heard about mod .inf, even the se number to which the card is assigned affects the correct operation of the driver.
When I have some more time I will try to install drivers with the id line in different groups. Maybe it will help with sound through hdmi ....

mDP Works! for me also without sound; / but there is a picture! it all depends on nvidia driver! exactly from the section000 we will assign when modifying the nvmii.inf file!
    but from the beginning.
I was able to solve this problem thanks to the fact that when I waited for a shipment from China, I started to learn about the steps of installing the card and reading the tutorial about mod .inf
With curiosity I checked the id of my gtx 980m, I saved it just in case :) and that was the key!

It's the one by the way
    PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_13D7 & SUBSYS_11311462

and this is how nvmii.inf looks for the gtx980m card for msi gt70

    in the [Manufacturer] group
    % NVIDIA_A% = NVIDIA_Devices, NTamd64.10.0, NTamd64.10.0 ... 14310

    % NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.1131.1462% = Section098, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_13D7 & SUBSYS_11311462

1131 is a way to write a laptop model (GT70?) According to the legend of the forum but in my case it's 0000 ?! I think I have unlocked the vbios and changed the id of the card to 0000
    by Chinese engineers :)

    in the group [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0]

    % NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.1131.1462% = Section097, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_13D7 & SUBSYS_113114

using the legend from the mod .inf forum page and browsing the contents of the .inf file, I noticed that the section record is the driver's instructions on the functions of the card. So I thought it might be worth trying to assign the section 097 (because it's my system group) since the gtx 980m worked without problems, maybe the gtx1060 too.

this is what the line in nvmii.inf looks like for me

    % NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.0000.1462% = Section097, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_1C60 & SUBSYS_00001462

I installed the drivers with the connected external screen via mDP and after installation the image appeared!

shortcut fn + f2 works for me only once when I switch from internal to external screen.... like win+p for you. but I have no problem with the shortcut win + p, I can switch as much as I want :)

But ... I still do not have sound by hdmi ..... but I do not give up!

In a sense, yes and no. But the most important thing was to find the right section operating for gt70. Maybe there is a more compatible section than this one. For example, in which the sound works :)

But I still have not received an answer from you, do you also have a problem with sound over hdmi in your case?

I cant do what you did because in my case my device id is:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C60&SUBSYS_11FF1462

and there is no line on the original driver that has the 1C60 11FF and 1462 (following what the tutorial says about mod the driver) and the way that Svet modded my driver is different from the tutorial. Too bad, i do really want my eDP back to work :(

Thanks for the answer. If the hdmi worked perfectly, I understand that the sound also worked. In that case, I ran out of ideas which may be the cause of no sound. Time for a fresh installation of win10: /

@mg0706 Simply download the driver from https://premamod.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/j95-nvidia-inf/

Depending on what OS you have disable to driver enforcement and away you go, just follow J95's instructions and it will work.

However if you want to mod the file yourself search for the line: (Double check the Section number for the above code its different depending on OS the driver is for)

    Code:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11AF.1462% = Section202, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C60&SUBSYS_11AF1462

then paste this in the same area (Double check the Section number for the above code its different depending on OS the driver is for)

    Code:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11FF.1462% = Section202, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C60&SUBSYS_11FF1462

There will be two instances of this. Then right at the bottom of the file will be the following

    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11AF.1462 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060"

Simply Copy and paste the following in

    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11FF.1462 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060"

Then save it. Then run setup.exe after.

No worries. In your case you only have to change the section to 097 or 098 depending on your system, each line must be individually written for your card.
So for you it should look like this in the nvmii.inf file
    in the [Manufacturer] group
    % NVIDIA_A% = NVIDIA_Devices, NTamd64.10.0, NTamd64.10.0 ... 14310
    you must add a line:
    % NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11FF.1462% = Section098, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_1C60 & SUBSYS_11FF1462
    in the group:
    [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0]
    you must add a line:
    % NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.11FF.1462% = Section097, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_1C60 & SUBSYS_11FF1462
    in the group:
    [Strings]
    DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows 10 (64 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1"

    add a line:
    NVIDIA_DEV.1C60.11FF.1462 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060"

    I think it should work.

hello !! well i must clarify i tested with an hdmi monitor without speakers (forgot to mention that) so i cannot confirm or deny the audio issue. Also as you may now my games worked perfectly except i had serious lag and screen tearing when i turned Vsync off when using the laptop screen , with the hdmi screen this issue was gone , also when i clicked on nvidia control panel when using internal display screen options didnt showed (i could see 3d options fine) with the external display i could see both 3d options and screen options . does that makes sense?

Yes, and I did not even realize it, but I have exactly the same problem. Since I mainly use an external monitor or tv, I did not pay attention to the lag problem. I have the same problem with the nvidia options as well. Well, still more and more incompatibilities .....

This is also not a big problem for me. Especially that I do not use the internal screen almost at all. Indeed external speakers I connect to bluetooth or aux cabel. This card is a real deal. Now I'm playing with undervolting and I have to admit that I'm impressed! at 1000mV, I set 2040MHz on the core and + 500MHz on the memory clock! temperatures between 70-76 at full load! Beast!
Honestly I'm more than happy with this card: P compatibility problems are just a trifle.

Heh! hacktrix2006 gave you Section202 it does not work!
    As I said ... try Section098!
I've already installed drivers at least 15 times with different sections, and mDP only works in this one! remember to use the Display Driver Uninstaler program to clean the registers. Try it!
These sections are the key to success!

i have a GT70 2PC and want to put 1060 into it. But i do use mDP and the HDMI and have 3 monitors Laptop, 30" dell and a 24" dell just for screen real-estate

is there a smooth process/order of operations for a person about to get a 1060 or maybe a 980m is a more stable choice

    thank you guys

@PenyKuleczka @panamaniacs2011 do you guys know if it's possible to fit the 1070 GTX as well into the GT60? I have the 16f4 barebones version which came with a 970m. What are the side effects you faced? Do you have enough power for the new card? Did you upgrade your screens to 4k?

    Thanks in advance.

@woodzstack has some solutions and i am getting a card from him just waiting on that but it seems the 1060 might be the high end of cards for fit and power in a GT60

if your in legacy mode, you would need to make sure the "optimus=1" is in the INF under the right section too, or some games will not switch to the dedicated properly. But if on dedicated card/UEFI no legacy i.e no Optimus/SG card present then you would be good to go.

    hello !!
i didnt had a gtx 1070 when i had th gt60 , but afaik it wont work properly , i read here in some post (i dont remember which) that the card will throttle seriously since max power adapter is 180w which is not enough for the card to work as intended , but as i understand the card was recognized by drivers fine (with modded drivers ) but is not worth it , gtx 1060 is the way to go if you want solid performance

    The card won't throttle.
    The CPU will.
And the EC will just throttle the CPU harder and harder if power keeps exceeding 180W, all the way down to 800 mhz if necessary, overriding all bios power limit overrides.
Also battery boost drain will be extremely excessive.

The PSU will just shut off if about 200W is drawn from the wall.
Switching to a higher capacity PSU won't work.
