Is anyone experiencing very low mic in volume through Realtek on the GT60?
Even my integrated mic has louder volume than my external.
Also I have set the same mic settings on my desktop and I checked the skype volume and the volume on my desktop is substantially higher.

    Things I have tried.
    1. My volume is set to max with +20 db mic boost.
    2. I have turned off all enhancements.
    3. Reinstalled default Realtek drivers from MSI
    4. Installed latest Realtek drivers
    5. Unchecked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

Is there any way to check if there is an issue with the mic in port itself?
I ordered a usb audio adapter to see if it helps with the volume...but if there is an issue with the port, I'd like to get it fixed. Also using usb audio adapter would bypass the realtek equalizer.

Im having the same issue as well with my GT60 2OC.
People are having trouble hearing me with my input volume on max with +20db.
    +30db produces too much static

Ive used to same mic on multiple computers before and they were all fine. Ive even tried other mics i have lying around, same problem

    Anyone have any ideas?

Try speaking toward the microphone closer.
Driver-wise, can you try the latest Realtek 7106?
    Download 7106

I haven't tried the driver that Kevin just posted yet, but I was able to get good mic volume when I got a USB audio adapter.
Amazon.com: Sabrent Usb 2.0 Virtual External 2.1 Surround Sound Adapter USB-AUDD: Computers & Accessories

This isn't really addressing the actual issue, but working around it.
One downside of using the adapter is that you won't get to use the Realtek equalizer with it.

My mic is already 1 inch from my mouth. Thats the only way anyone can hear me at all, and even then just barely
Also just found out that that the MSI Canada site doesnt have the latest drivers. have to look at USA site, pretty lame.

Ill try those drivers when i get chance, thanks

Nevermind :( it was actually because I started using my old rockboxed iriver h320 mp3 players mic with its own amp that fixed my problem.
Problem with this setup is its not portable in the slightest and looks terrible. Brick of an mp3 player on my table which needs to be always turned on and plugged into the wall, with a line out cable going into my laptop.

Now that I went and tried some regular mics out, the drivers didnt help at all actually. Same as before, very low input volume, and any extra mic boost adds tons of static.
If anything, its probably just bad shielding or circuitry in the laptop design causing this :/

    Thanks though

Can you go into the internal microphone's property and increase mic boost to +20 dB?
There's a Listen tab that you can click on to activate "Listen to this device" to verify microphone function.

Yeah ive been playing around with those settings with 3 different drivers already, thats how ive been testing my mics. 10db already has static sound but its bearable, 20db or more makes the hissing really loud.
Trying to raise to 20 or 30db and lowering the volume instead doesnt work either. Same problem.

Also tried unplugging the charger and other cables to see if it was interference, but no luck either.

Have you tried updating the driver as well as increasing the mic boost as well?

Definitely check the 'mic-boost' setting. In the GS70 Stealth, I found 'by-default' that the mic-boost was set to it's lowest setting, and with some minor adjustment, the mics will work fine...... however, I would not say MSI mic quality is great. As such, I would recommend a good quality headset, over the lid's open mics. :)

Hey guys, be sure, I tried all possible workarounds :D Nothing helps. The mic input seems malfunctioning, because noise/signal volume ratio is unacceptable. Still interesting that if I switch this jack to subwoofer mode (5.1 audio), it works fine and clean as output. I believe there is some issue with my realtek chip and mic input (this happens to their chips time to time as I've read on web). BTW built in microphone works very good in comparison to the external one (of course I tried different headphones).
