I'm considering purchasing a GT70 from Newegg and the one I'm interested in does not have a bracket for the open HDD bay which I intend to toss a SSD in. I searched around but I can't seem to find a place to buy one. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also wary of buying the laptop from Newegg. I'm nervous about getting a dead pixel and that would drive me crazy. I know the resalers around sell a guaranty but I need the laptop quickly and the one at Newegg is ready to ship. Any input on buying a laptop form Newegg would also be appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks for the input, I ordered the GT70 202 and when I get a chance to look at the hardware I may try this eraser thing.

I put the SSD in the primary spot and used the bracket that. I then cut out a chunk of an eraser that holds the disk in place. Here is a picture, does it look OK?

This is the way to go as the bracket from RKComputers are very expensive. By the way, we recently ordered a GT60 202US from BHPhotovideo and came with an extra bracket and the 3 screws for the 2nd HDD bay.

I would have assumed that it would also have come with the GT70. ;-(

I just used some 3m strong tape. Tape a bit to the ssd and a bit to the plastic wall. Just as strong and also much much less expensive.

I just cut the one bracket in half, and used each half for each drive. Works great.

Outstanding! Do you think putting an eraser type solution on the otherside (side that has been cut) would help it in the long run?

No, i dont think it is needed. It's sitting perfectly with the one half bracket alone. :)

Sure, can do it the next time the laptop is taken apart.
But cut it through the middle, and you will have one mount point for the drive to the bracket, and one mount point for the bracket in the laptop.

I like the bracket cutting idea and will probably do that the next time I take it apart. So far the eraser has worked out great I'm a pilot and this thing goes everywhere with and it has held tight.

Nice to know that we can just easily cut the bracket in half and that the eraser mod holds up well too. Hopefully, sellers can just offer an extra bracket at a friendlier price so we all would simply pick one up.

eraser mod helps a lot..... although the barebones seller I dealt with gave me the original bracket plus a rubber stopper for the SATA 3 slot specifically
