The touchpad on this thing is driving me INSANE.
I finally got a hold of a mac notebook and found out why the touchpad feels so good. They actually have a HUGE delay on the lower 10% of the touchpad so you don't move the curser when clicking down on the pad for left and right click.
I have tried to do every single setting possible on this GS70 in the provided windows 7 driver but whenever I use left or right click, it slightly moves the mouse cause its registering movement.
Has anyone found out any way to disable the lower part of the touchpad or put a delay on just the lower part of it when you click the buttons down? I cant left of right click without it moving the freaking mouse on my screen!
Thanks!

This is exactly the same thing I disliked about the clickpad because I am so used to the traditional touchpad with the separated left and right buttons.
Are you running the latest Elantech driver?
MSI USA -
Yeah using the latest one.
Its killing me here. I dropped into a best buy to see what they had with single touchpads and there were a few from HP there. And guess what, ALL of them have a HUGE delay on the lower most part of the touchpad so you dont move the mouse when you press to click it down.
Its a shame cause this laptop is great otherwise but holy crap this is annoying. I find it hard to believe that no one else finds this annoying? There HAS to be a setting to enable this right?? I mean every other laptop I tried has one. What am I missing?? -
It's undoubtedly a driver issue. I just can't believe there is only two versions of the driver right now. I'm surprised they haven't released a new driver version yet.

Try removing the driver completely and try again. See if there's any changes in the behavior.
-
Ahh! Will try that. Maybe the default windows driver will give me desired results. Ill test and report back.

How did it go? -
I've not noticed this issue on mine running the latest drivers from the MSI site, but I have noticed there seems to be no way to enable scrolling by moving your finger down the outer edge of the touchpad which is something I've used massively on other laptops and it's starting to drive me slightly made having to use the arrow keys to scroll.
Does this feature just not exist or have I missed something? -

Try using two fingers to scroll. -
Same issue. Ugg this is insane. My GF is a life long Macbook user and finally switched to this thing. Loves it but stopped using it due to the touchpad. Now its just a paper weight until I can get this figured out. HP, Apple, and Dell have their touchpads figured out why not MSI??

What will happen if you remove the driver completely?
What's your current version of BIOS and EC firmware? -
When I completely remove the driver it picks up as a regular mouse but still has the same issue. Ill get you the BIOS when I get home. How do I find what the EC version is? Thanks for the help so far!

Press DEL to enter BIOS, and then go to System Information. -
Hello Kevin,
I picked up a MSI GS70 from Gentech last month. I had it wiped with Win7 instead of Win8. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all kinds of versions of the touchpad drivers.. Currently, I'm on the latest drivers that were referenced in this thread. My BIOS Version is E1771IMS.709 and EC Version is 1771EMS1 Ver5.05.
I've been having this crazy issue with all versions since I received my MSI GS70 where the mouse just stops during motion or just won't respond. It's intermittent. When the issue occurs it stops for about 5 seconds, maybe more, maybe less and completely unresponsive during this time. I've made sure that TP Rejection is not enabled. It's just so annoying. I knew the laptop had trackpad issues when I bought it, but I was under the impression that the latest drivers fixed everything. But, it is simply not true in my case.
If you happen to have any insight on this issue, I'd be most appreciative. Cause it is driving me bonkers.
Thanks,
Jared -

BIOS is 7.0E now.
http://dl.msi.com/download_files/bos_exe/w8_E1771IMS.70E.zip
EC is 1.508.
http://dl.msi.com/download_files/frm_exe/w8_1771EMS1.508.zip
Note: Flash BIOS in Windows using FLASHWIN.BAT, and flash EC firmware using AUTOFLASH.EXE and poke the tiny hole on the right toward the front to reset it.
Check in the BIOS under System Information to verify the version changes to make sure.
Touchpad driver:

Note: Remove existing one first, reboot the PC, install the new driver, reboot the PC again and verify. -
Hey Kevin.
The BIOS is: E1771IMS.50C
and the EC is: 1771EMX Ver5.07
What is the proper procedure for updating both these under windows 7 legacy mode? Can still use the windows based tools?
Thanks a ton! -
I performed the steps outlined.. Still having the same issue. Every few min give or take.. Touchpad is just unresponsive..
-
Anyone??? Surly I cant be the only one. Updated to the latest FW and EC.
HOW DO YOU DISABLE THE LOWER 10% OF THE TOUCHPAD LIKE THE MAC's THE HP's AND THE DELL's?? -
