Hi all, just took delivery of a GS65 GTX 1070 yesterday. Trouble is it has a strange form of backlight bleed in the upper left corner. it's not noticeable the majority of the time but is frustrating on such an expensive machine.

The shop have no more stock of this laptop so exchange is not an option. It was bought with a (6.5% discount) gift card, so I'm tied into the store. My only option is a 10% refund (back to the gift card) or spending more on a Razer Blade 1070 or the GS65 2060 edition at around 20% more cost to me. £1495 (GS65 1070) vs £1900 (Blade), £1950 (GS65 2060).

Not sure what to do yet. Otherwise I love the laptop and it doesn't have any issues. Has anyone seen similar bleed before? It may actually be damage from shipping, though I couldn't see any damage to the well packaged box.

Your image is not public and so requires sign-in to view. It's broken for the rest of us.

My guess is that it's to do with the way the screen is mounted and perhaps some pressure from the bezel.

Looks like some kind of damage. if you are happy with the laptop - maybe try to get it fixed with MSI ?

Link fixed. As you can see, it doesn't look like the usual form of backlight bleed.

That's damage to the film behind the LCD, you can see it's crumpled. It's a manufacturing defect. Send it back. :(

That’s the worse screen complaint I’ve ever seen. Try and find out when they will stock more. It’s a hard call what to do because the they deliver the same performance but the 2060 performs like the full laptop 1070 in dx12 but I doubt you can justify £400 to use rtx features.

I returned the laptop and bought a Razer Blade 15.6 GTX 1070. Picking it up tomorrow, hopefully with better luck from the display gods.

They offered me a 5% discount on the Razer for my trouble, plus the 6.5% discount I get buying the gift cards through my employer. There was also a price match to the lowest priced online retailer (£1799).

The effective cost to me is £1,582 which isn't too bad.

Got the Razer. Initial impressions are very good.

The display is fine, doesn't have the defect and has less backlight bleed.

The keyboard is not as nice as the MSI. Less of a clicky feel.

CPU temp is much lower. Less variation between individual core temps, and the temps don't hit 90c just browsing in Windows while doing system updates.

Glad you worked it out in the end. Its sad that you got a manufacture defect, but at least you changed it and now have a working product :) What specs do you run with your blade?

Cheers. I've got the Blade 15 with the 1070. Dual channel RAM which the MSI didn't have and seems to make a difference.

It's the 256GB model, so a 1TB 970 Evo will be procured shortly...
