My 570m seems to be dying. It keeps rebooting the laptop every 2 minutes and its practically unusable now.
Which GPUs can I use as a replacement for it? 670m, 770m, 870m?
Which ones need vbios update before replacing it and then heatsink modification?

Am really in a hurry, which one would you suggest its the best option here?

Depends what you need, how much are you willing to spend?

I'd go for a HD 8970M, it's cheap, very good performer and is compatible with your system.

Hmmm is it the equivalent of an nvidia 780m? I see 2gb and 4gb options is there really much of a difference?
What would be a proper price for it?
Am most probably gonna have to pay import charges and taxes though since am in EU.

I dont really wanna spend 500usd for a used gpu on a 6 year old laptop.
Looking for the best price/performance ratio.

On ebay you can get the 2GB version for around 150bucks, it's around 780M/ 880M / 965M performance depending on overclock. There is no difference in performance from 2GB vs the 4GB other than that the 4GB version lets you set textures on some games to ultra.

pretty much the best bang for the buck, you can even play games like witcher on medium/ultra mixed settings @ 50ish FPS.

150usd? I wish. Cheapest one I can find right now is around 300usd for the 4gb version.
Is there no other gpu at the same bang for the buck which is a bit more available?

Hello again, does the hd 8970m need a heatsink and bios modification or is it just plug and play? I couldnt find a guide for it.

I don't know exacly, the architecture seems rather similair so it looks like it should fit in most areas, the only part I'm concerned about is actually the part where all the mosfets are, but then again images give me a very poor idea about height as well, so there might be some issues here and there. I think it's best we ask someone who did this kind of modding before. I sadly sold my 780DX way back so I can't do the testing myself right now.

The MSI version of the HD 8970m won't need any Bios mod. You can get one of those for ~150USD on ebay.

In the worst case you can contact some heatsink modders here and ask them if they can make you a modded heatsink.

    @Meaker@Sager
Maybe you can help the guy out or maybe you still have the modded heatsink you made back in 2012 around?

Does the heatsink mod require any power tools? How do I cut through the metal.

I don't know yet, since I don't know what kind of mods will be required. That's why it may be best if you ask in the MSI subforums about the heatsink fits, where people have worked with it.
