GE75 benefit from cooler pad?

Just curious if the GE75 benefits from using a cooler pad. They are pretty inexpensive, and it wouldn't be a big deal to run one on my desk where I'll be using it like a desktop. Is it worth adding one?

 

So the benefit of a cooler pad isn't so much the pad itself but the fact that you're elevating the laptop and giving it airflow as where it would be restricted flat on a desk, table, or in some cases beds. The cooling will remain on the capability of the heatsinks and fans on the laptop. Elevating and giving it unrestricted airflow will benefit it more.

For people who like using laptops on bed and not have a propup table then I would advise to use one of these as the openings and airflow help keep itself nice and cool.

So yes the benefits you see are mostly if the laptop was restricted in the first place.

 

It was cheap enough, I ordered one. Came in today according to Amazon. I'll try it tomorrow and see if I get any benefit!

I am using custom NotePal U3 for my 2070 9750h GE75.

It does okay, corsair 12 cm high static pressure fans just under the intakes.

I'd say the gain is about 2cels. under load.

If you're going to spend like 30$, don't.

Get a good paste and some thermal pads for that price. + get 5$ rubber stands to maximize intake.

 

Desk came in last night, set it up, did some gaming. Big difference in cooling, in my opinion. I need to do some more testing to see, but I went from max temps of 95c to 89c, which is a lot more than I saw from undervolting.

I’m not sure if any of the other differences in setup helped also, but I went to an external keyboard and monitor at the same time.

 

External monitor may have helped.

 

Airflow, cooling pad, and change of cooling material will definitely help, beside undervolting.

 

Sorry if i am a bit too late, but nope! For the GE75 there are no benefits at all... temperatures does not even see it by half a degree in by case. Tested on my own machine with a custom made cooling pad (strapped two high pressure fans under an old cooling pad support and wired them to a smartphone power supply).

 

In my case, it made a pretty big difference, though when I was running it on a cooler pad, I was also running a 27" 1440p monitor instead of the laptop monitor. I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not, but I was seeing better temps and less throttling.

 

For me, just elevate your GE75 at +/- 1cm for better airflow to get it cooler rather then spending money to buy cooling gadget. I just used simple bottle cover to elevate my laptop. Temperature dropped from 77degC to 64degC during benchmarking at same 1090p Extreme setting. Benchmark result also improved. See pictures in the link

I've been running my GE75 with and without a pad frequently. When w/o pad (I have the CM STorm SF-17 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E5AEITU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) it gets significantly hotter to the touch up near the screen hinge. With the pad, significantly cooler. I've not monitored temps with the pad, though i know I hit mid 90s when not using the pad.
