Wanted to post here as I used this website while researching for a new gaming notebook. I purchased the MSI GE63VR from Frys for 2k last weekend. This included a 3 year warranty.

    i7-7700hq
    GTX 1070 8gb
    16gb Ram
    128ssd
    1tb HD
    120hz, 3ms screen.

I upgraded the ram to 32gb using Ballistic Sport LT 16gb Single DDR4 2400 ram. Everything worked fine after install. I added a Samsung 960evo 250gb SSD in the M.2 slot, everything worked fine after install.

I first tested the notebook as is after unboxing. Played some Destiny 2, ran Prime 95. After 3 hours of Destiny 2@max settings max temps were 87c on cores, 75c on GPU. About 5deg difference in core temps. Prime95 for 30min pushed core temps to Max 90c.

I did a fresh win 10 install, temps were the same on stress tests but idle temps went down about 5deg. Idle cpu usage went down to 2% from 7%.

I installed throttlestop and undervolted -.110mv. Two days in and all is stable. My max temps after playing Destiny 2 is 73c on cores!! Prime95 temps only hit 82c. Gpu is the same. Idle temps have gone down 15deg.

Fans are louder than my old Lenovo Y500 650m SLI but MUCH MUCH smoother. The machine is not noisy at all.

All I can say is everything is perfect so far. The build quality is top notch, the bottom is super easy to take off. The screen is fantastic! I'm going to use it for a few more weeks then I'll see about unlocking the BIOS and messing with it more. I was going to use it for 3 months then delid if I needed to. As of now I don't see that happening if temps stay where they are at. Completely satisfied so far.

I've played pubG, Destiny 2, Witcher 3, Guildwars 2 and have not noticed any lag or graphic issues.

Anyways thanks for having such a great community here, lots of useful info!

Enjoy, I just ordered its big brother, the GE73. Glad I went with upgrading the thermal solutions after seeing your temps before undervolting.

Question, does anyone recommend I use the unlocked version of the bios? Or has anyone done that with this laptop?

If you are thinking to do some overclocking to squeeze extra juice out of it then the answer is yes. :)
