I bought a GX660 laptop 6 months ago (February 2012) for $950. (Phased out now)
GX660 Specs:
15.6" 1366x768 Glossy Screen
Intel Core i5-520m 2.4GHz (2.93GHz Turbo Boost)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5
500GB HDD
8GB RAM
3.5kg
Now, GE60 with i5 variant was released here in our country for $900
GE60 Specs:
15.6" 1366x768 Matte Screen
Intel Core i5-3210 2.5GHz (3.1GHz Turbo Boost)
Nvidia GT 650M 2Gb GDDR5
500GB HDD
8GB RAM
2.4kg
If im going to sell my gx660, I will sell it for $830-$780, I lose $120-$170
I want to sell it because its heavy (I bring it to school) and its a 2010 model laptop.
About the performance, do you think there is a major difference? In daily task and gaming?
i5 520m vs i5 3210m
hd 5870m vs GT 650m

I have a G73 w/5870M. I bought a GE60 w/660M - i7 3610QM and returned it. It wasn't enough real world gaming difference for me.
The GE60 @1080p performed about the same as the G73 @900p. Of course I could run the GE60 at reduced resolution but I didnt want to do that.
For daily tasks with 3610QM it was more than enough for me.
The GE60 is light ( my actual was 5.6lbs ) and the screen was very nice. -
The performance will be almost the same! 650m is 5% faster according to some benches.
The ge60 is much lighter! Also a little thinner.
You say portability is very important so this is a good reason to change.
The speakers on ge60 aren't as good though, no subwoofer.
Only 2 ram slots but that should be fine -
The speakers are actually very loud and clear (the laptop has 4 speakers), though they lack some bass because of the lack of a subwoofer.

I came up from a GX660R, and yes, I consider it a worthy upgrade. I do kind of miss the dual HDD slots, but thankfully mSATA fixes that. You get Optimus, and the base 650m should perform around the same as the 5870.
-
Well you can push that 650m to 660m clock easy...
I think you gonna see a nice difference... does it worth 150$... I think so...
also its less heavy...
I use my laptop 9 hours a night 4 nights a weeks... and i love it -

GE60 is a much better unit, if you compare in the performance. I really doubt you can sell your old GX660 with the price you mention? MSI recently offer a mail-in rebate to lower the price on GE60-0NC. I do not know how long they will continue their promotion.
-
^ that rebate is not offered here in country because local shop sell them in higher prices.
GE60, worthy upgrade?
