Had my ge60 for about two months now. Everything was running buttery smooth up until a week ago.

The startup process became very slow. It would hang at the boot up screen for 15 secs then it goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor for another 15-20 secs. After that the starting windows screen shows up, which is fast.

I deleted my restore partition a while back so I can't do a system restore. :/

I've formatted the hard drive and tried a clean install multiple times and it still has the same problem mentioned above.

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there's any solution.

I checked the msi website and there's a BIOS update. I downloaded the file but I don't know how to update it. It gave me a compatibility error.

    Any help is appreciated.

When you said "tried" a clean install, do you mean the clean install wasn't successful? Or do you mean the problem still persists even with a successful clean install?

Also, is there any other unusual behavior? Are you noticing slower HDD read/write speeds? Artifacts in games?

The clean installations were all successful. Its just the startup process that is slow.

I didn't notice any slowdowns in read/write speed of the disk or any artifacts in games so I don't think the hard drive is failing/broken.

HWMonitor is displaying this thing as running hot. Just turned it on to the check the hard drive status and its getting hot.

Looks like that's the issue. RMA that sucker.

Who'd you buy it from, anyway? See if you can just RMA the drive and not the whole machine. You already know the laptop works fine, so no need to return it for a new one.
