    Guys,

I'm hitting 96 degress in Furmark on my MSI 1761 with a GTX 580m (Turbo fan ON). I do know that Furmark is pure punishment... But 96 degrees seems very hot. It did make it through the 15 minutes though.

What temps are you getting in Furmark?

I have the 1761 GTX 570m w/ IC Diamond Thermal Paste. After running Furmark for 30 minutes, my max temp is 73 Celsius. During a 2 hour BF3 session with my card overclocked, the highest it gets is 66 Celsius.

Wow. That's a big difference. I'm thinking I may have a problem with the heatsink contact to the graphics card. Cheers.

Anyone else with a 580m for a comparison?

Well, I would think the 580m gets hotter than the 570m. Don't quote me but I think it runs at a higher voltage.

What's your 570m voltage? My 580m is 0.87v. Having said that I know people are overvolting them to 0.92. If I did that at these temps, my card would be toast. I suppose at this point I can only assume bad contact with GPU and heatsink.

I guess you are getting these temps with turbo fan on. Also you should note that temps you are getting is strongly depends on your ambient temps. For example I am getting max 80C with turbo fan off during BF3, but that's with 26-27C ambient. At 22C I am gettting 73-75C with turbo fan off.

No, they are with Turbo Fan off. My ambient room temp is 72 Fahrenheit in my house. To tell you the truth, I've never even took a reading with Turbo Fan on since my temps are so good with it off. Why add the noise if I don't need it.

    My 570m voltage is .850.

Hmm thanks for the info guys. Perhaps its just the extra heat of the 580m, in conjunction with maybe a little bit of work I need to do to reseat the heatsink.

My ambient temps are 22 deg C. So its going 70 plus degrees over ambient for me. Yikes.

While I do know that the 580 runs a little hotter than the 570, I don't think the difference is supposed to be that drastic. Here is what I would do. I would get yourself some good thermal paste like IC Diamond. Remove the GPU and clean the existing thermal paste off of it. Then apply a small amount of IC Diamond. It's worth a shot. I am willing to bet that whoever applied the current thermal paste did a ty job.

Yeah I ordered the IC Diamond the other day. I cant wait to pull this thing to pieces anyway. I have the replacement keyboard coming as well for my dud D key so I'll get to do two operations. :) Only a geek could get excited about that, lol. Ken, if you're listening, you should have just sent it to me in bits to begin with... :p

That's a nice temps with turbo fan off. I should check mine at 22C(72F) and will report back. I have MX-4 applied on my GPU.

A change on the thermal paste will most likely improve temps, but if the notebook is still on warranty, it a tricky situation. Personally since i dont stress test my laptop for now "MSI 780DX (570M)", i will wait for now with the thermal paste switch.

Yea, I don't know how long you have had your laptop but I've had mine for about 1 month. When I first got it, my BF3 temps would get to 70 Celsius but it seems like every week I used it, it dropped a degree. I've also heard others talking about their CPU/GPU getting cooler after the paste on them get's broken in.

I've know with Arctic silver the break in period was around 200 hours from what I understand. Apparently though with IC Diamond it is only a couple of hours. I'd like to see something official on that one however. What are you using?

AS5 is a good choice (I'm using it) but I guess IC Diamond is better according to all the tests and what I've heard.

I'm using IC Diamond. The break in period makes sense since I continued to see my temps drop slowly.

That's interesting. I was under the impression it was near immedaite. Well that is good, I will continue to monitor my temps and hopefully mine drop too :) I just ordered some thermal pads and some have some diamond IC on the way, so I'm going to pull apart the whole cooling system and do it my way. Standard IC application to CPU and GPU, then either pads or a dab of IC to other chips/RAM. Hoping I can achieve some better results. :)
