Greetings.
Recently i buyed a full color (steelseries) keyboard but i am having a strange issiue with it.
I have an MSI Barebone MS-1762 that had no backlit keyboard and wanted to have a full color one.
When i installed this keyboard the LED works fine but whatever i press a key i got diffrent input. (If i press E the system input is F3) for every key.
I dont know if its a faulty keyboard or if this keyboard is not compatible with MSI barebones.
Could the broblem be a faulty keyboard or its because its not compatible with MSI Barebones?
Thank you

Over time the keyboard control scheme has changed so generally you want to get a keyboard from the same generation.
-
The only diffrence is that the new keyboard has an windows 8 layout, but still i don't think that the control scheme and keys changed that much.
If i press Q the scan code that the keyboard must send is Q, not TAB -

Yes the mapping of the matrix for the keys has changed (the inner electrics and what corresponds to which key press) you can try updating the ec but it's unlikely to help.

If the keyboard have a changed layout how can i use it so whatever i press match?
About updating the EC i am abit afraid since i have a Barebone and dont know witch one is the right one to update.
Where can i find and update my EC and BIOS.
So far my bios version is E1762IG6.70T
My EC Version: 1762EG61 Ver. 5.02

Recently i updated my EC and BIOS with the one from this branded laptop: MSI Global GT70 0ND
Still if i press some keys i got different input.
Looking that laptop, it has an windows 8 layout keyboard full colored.
Hence i updated my EC and BIOS, the keyboard i got must work right?
In this case, maybe i got a faulty keyboard? -
After spending all day searching the internet it seems like the windows 8 layout keyboards are not compatible with old windows 7 layout keyboards.
I just wanna know why. It makes no sense. Even if they changed the key codes, you should be able to remap them somehow.
I also cant find a windows 7 generation backlit keyboard. So if someone can help me find one i'd be grateful.
Thanks. -

The mapping is hard coded into the ec. Only the latest models support full key mapping.

Since i am an idiot i tryed to flash a EC firmware with a windows 8 layout on myne.
After the flash my laptop died and i have no video output.
I thought that flashing the EC wont brick the laptop... Is the EC on the same chip withthe BIOS? This means i bricked it right? If so what should i do to unbrick it?
If i contact MSI they provide support for bricked laptops?
Thanks.Last edited: Jan 25, 2015
