Looking at 14" or under machines, and I was wondering which one of these is better. The Force seems to have slightly better specs for a cheaper price, so I was wondering if the build quality suffered due to this or what the main differences were.

the Force 1492 is the barebones version of the GE40 as far as I know.
They have the same build quality and only differ in how they are configured internally (along with warranty and colour scheme etc.)

That doesn't seem right, because the Force has a better processor (4700mq vs the 4702mq which is about $200). The only thing I can find worse on the Force is the HDD, which can be upgraded to the same and still be about $30 less than the GE40 while still having the processor upgrade.

Barebones are normally cheaper than their MSI-branded counterparts so that is no surprise.
Maybe a reseller can answer definitively to convince you if you don't want to believe me.
The MSI branding comes with some differences too: better warranty and the Killer LAN ethernet are the two I remember off the top of my head.

The force has a lil bit faster quadcore cpu but is an energy guzzler at 47 watts which might not be healthy for something like a thin and light gaming machine which explains why ge40 and razer 14 went with the energy efficient quadcore 4702 which only guzzles 37 watts compared to the new m14x that weighs 6-6.5lbs and about 1.5inch thick and it uses the 4700mq.

Another difference is the hdd where force has 5400rpm and ge40 has 7200rpm
