I'm buying a MSI GT72 Dominator Pro for my mother cause she doesnt like how heavy alienware is I thought I'd try MSI the basic specifications are:
    GTX 980M
    DDR3 16GB 1600 or 1866
    i7-4710HQ
I will not have any M.2 drives installed yet except the stock 128GB it comes with.
Probably just the stock 1TB 7200RPM FOR NOW

I will be ordering it from gentech (please correct me if you think thats a bad idea)

I have a couple questions and suggestions are accepted

    1. Does this model have the button that makes the fans go full speed (I think of heard of that feature somewhere)

    2. Can you change the lights to any color?

    3. Anybody who owns one with a 980M whats your average GPU temp during gaming and under load.

    4. Can I freely change the M.2 drives without tripping any warranty stickers.

    5. Can I freely change the ram without tripping any warranty stickers.

    6. Can I freely change the 2.5in drive without tripping a warrenty sticker.

    7. About how deep until youll run into the warrenty sticker if I havnt tripped it using questions 4-6 (gentech lead me to believe MSI has a sticker correct me if there is no sticker)

    8. ANYONE with the same processor whats your load temp.

Thats all the questions I have sorry if I was vague im in a hurry I'll add if I must. Thanks

She has a picture from an official MSI rep in the first screenshot showing that MSI will allow you to upgrade RAM and the HDDs etc. It is official proof.

Also, the reason that guy says unofficially is because they don't make it their "official" company stance... if they DID they'd need to never print machines with that sticker. But that sticker is a scare tactic so that users who don't know what they're doing will not break their machines inside then expect it'll be fixed under warranty for their blunder.

    Frysie,

D2 Ultima is correct, we cannot make that our official policy, because there are too many people out there who dont know what they are doing and would cause alot of headaches for us =]. Just know that, we do in fact honor the warranty, even if the sticker is broken, as long as the damage to the product was not user inflicted and was a manufacturer issue.

    Trickster29,

Damn, your mom is quite lucky to have you! My mother wouldn't know what to do with a gt72 dom pro :p

I've had so-so experience with MSi notebooks, specifically the GT60 and GS60. Their location in Vancouver or Richmond was a complete disaster in fixing a VGA error in my GT60. I bought the notebook in Sept 2013 and it took them until Jan 2014 to fix with me having to send it off to Toronto after 2 months of waiting in Vancouver. My GS60 works fine and no problems with it so far.

My experience with GentechPC is very positive though. They have very helpful technicians that work extremely fast and are genuinely concerned when you have a problem. Ideally if I were you, I would order the Asus G751 from Gentech and go from there just because the problem with my GT60 was such an incredible pain. Near 4 months of waiting on a 2.8k CAD notebook and the end result was MSi replacing my original new notebook (with the broken unfixed VGA adapter) with a refurbished model.

I truely appricate your insight with gentech and MSI.

I would not go with a ASUS laptop (im only against their laptops) because i believe slow warrenty support is better then none at all. the last ASUS we got was pretty bad. I don't remember the model but it was pretty recent it had a 770M this 770M ran at 95C in diablo 3 rediculas for such a game. I couldnt open the laptop to repaste without voiding the warranty. It would constantly thermal shut down. There was no manual fan control (the fans were practically sleeping) the warrenty representives were horrible the only one that helped us out was the reseller. He refunded both. The second one was exactly the same as the other but it had a 780M they offered no way to restore but the windows 8.1 USB stick course that doesnt even work just so the reseller would take it back we had to buy a retail copy of windows 8.1 to get the thing working again. so no I will not buy ASUS again, that is one of the main reasons im trying MSI. Long story short OS was wiped to edit the RAID configurations. Swapped both ASUSs out for 2 ALIENWARE 18s with 780M Sli the first one that belonged to my brother died of his abuse to it (hes very bad to computers) instantly dell got up and said the whole board was snapped in half (i was like damn).they gave us a brand new one (couldnt find any refurbished models with the same specs so they just made a new one) with 880M SLI and a 4910MQ and 16GB DDR3 instead of his 4700MQ 780m SLI and 8gb. Regardless of the AW18S PROBLEMS I was able to get that 4910MQ up to 4.3Ghz its max semi unlocked speed. Thats because I could open the thing and help it without voiding a warranty. So thats our ASUS horror story.

I will try gentech like you said as I have never worked with them before once again I appricate your insight. Not asus though.

    Thanks again :)

However im also considering XOTiCPC does anyone have any insight on them that I can compare to gentech?

    The asus was a G750JX

Oh and btw just cause I want to add it in EVEN after buying the retail 8.1 they didnt even have the right wifi driver on their site I was like you got to be kidding. So I had to fish a KILLER 1202 driver from dell through google. Thank god it accepted it.

I didnt order the laptops though so it could have been the killer was custom installed by the reseller. Because of that I normally handle the computer builds :/ but eveb then the site wouldnt work right it was broken every download unless you swapped to another browser after each or cleared cookies it would say a server error on the second download you tried.

Ouch, that sounds pretty bad as well. Well the lesson I took home is to simply buy your electronics at a local store. Not that I have anything against resellers since Gentech went above and beyond (both with communication and a free copy of BF4 at the time of release since I missed it due to my notebook being stuck in Vancouver) but it would be easier to be to deal with exchanges or returns especially if you live outside of the U.S like me (Canada).

I purchased my GS60 at a memoryexpress store here in Canada and if there had been any day 1 problems (like my GT60), all it would take is a 15 minute drive to the store instead of having to wrap it up and ship it internationally.

Yea the support for everyone outside of the us is pretty bad. But I'm in the US so I tend to buy the online cause I get them the way I want them course yea I believe you guys are treated unfairly as far as that stuff goes.

No matter where you live ordering from somewhere that can help you out is always a good start.
