The previous version ran for me, but the base clock slider was locked along with everything else.

I can confirm the new version of XTU ran for me with the standard and unlocked MSI 16F2 bios but didn't use it as we could set the bclk thru the bios instead.

Hi guys, new to the forum. I own a GT683 and gave this utility a try, it works so that's awesome.

It only lets me change the reference clock (stock 100MHz) sadly no option to change Memory, Multiplier or any other setting.

What's the difference between my GT683 and the MS-16F2? I'm curios as in CPU-Z it says MS-16F2 and not GT683. And whats this 16F2 modified bios that was mentioned a few posts back?

    Thanks for all help.

Really not much of a difference, only external aesthetics. The GT683 has the orange LED lights, MSI logo which I believe lights up on the back of the LCD display, and the top touch panel are about the only differences.

You can check out our shootout video comparison of the two on youtube.

As far as the modded BIOS, provide a link to it. Which one are you referring to?

Yes that's right. The MSI logo glows white whenever the display is on. Anything that turns off the display, will turn off the logo light.. closing the lid or switching to an external display for example.

Do you have a link to the YouTube video? BTW I apologise if I have been asking questions that are clearly posted in some other thread or sticky somewhere. Being a new member is no excuse. I just noticed The Official GT683R/GT683DXR Owner's Lounge - Actually I noticed it before but only just noticed it was for my laptop. Actually curious about that.. Mine is just GT683, but that thread says GT683R. What's the R? Is there any difference? The site I bought it from listed it as MSI GT683-694UK

So ummm, sorry for all that off-topicness.. As for the BIOS, I was talking about this post:

Ah ok thanks.. That seems kinda stupid having a totally different named model for that reason. I have a GT683 but I could put RAID on it/update it to have RAID BIOS or whatever but it's still a GT683. BTW Why does CPU-Z say my model is a MS-16F2 and not a GT683? Apologies for OT.

Because it will ID it by what the basic chassis/mainboard is at its core.
