Looking at grabbing a GT72 Dominator from XOTIC PC or GenTech PC.

When customizing this model, what absolutely should I choose to "upgrade" so that everything that's not easily user-accessible is upgraded before shipping out to me?

From everything I've read, it looks like it's just the RAM on the top-side of the motherboard, is that correct?

Are those two RAM slots on the top-side of the motherboard the matching slots of one of the channels? (ie. A1, A2 and the bottom-side that's under the door B1, B2?)

Finally what are the differences between the Pro. and non-Pro. models of the GT72 aside from the video card?

I believe the main difference between the Pro and non Pro is just the GPU. As for upgrades, as you mention, RAM would be the "only" one you could probably take care of right off the bat.

What model are you looking for/at? I would go for the 5700HQ/Gsync version myself. Seems like a good price/performance ratio.

If the only difference b/w the GT72 Pro. and non-Pro. is the GPU, then I'm probably going to go with one of these (don't see differences other than price):

    Dominator G-1445
    Dominator G-1432
    Dominator G-1667

and have the RAM upgraded to 32GB off the bat.

What is the difference b/w the three models I've listed above? Do they all have IPS screens?

14xx models ship with windows 8.1, 16xx models ship with windows 10.

The other models in the series differ in CPU/RAM/SSD/GPU so those are the specs to check.

For what you should be upgrading is going to depend on what you are planning on using it for. People who use it for more of a work station, I would recommend different things than someone who is just gaming.

Yes, the pro is just in reference to having the better grahpics cards in MSI models. In this case, the Pro has the 980m, where the regular one just has a 970m.

Absolultey correct. Something like the G-1423 and G-1667 are pound for pound the same computer, except which WIndows is on there. And you can do the free upgrade for the windows 8.1 installed on the 14xx models anyways.

Thanks guys. I'll probably go with the Dominator G-1667 then.

Regarding the RAM slots; are the two hard-to-access slots the matching slots of one of the channels (A1 and A2) while the two user accessible slots (on the underside of the laptop) the other matching set (B1 and B2)?

Finally, the G-1667 does have an IPS screen, right?

Not 100% sure about the naming. But speaking about the RAM, the hard to reach spots are the ones that are typically occupied by the stock RAM. So if you want to add your own then the easy to access spots should be open.
