I just recently recieved my new laptop, a stock MSI e7405. For some reason, my luck must be awful with laptops because I have already had some annoying problems.

First, let me state that i have installed Crysis and played it on max settings. It looks awesome and runs fairly smoothly.

Now here is the frustrating part. Right out of the box, i started getting wierd BSOD errors. I was not really doing anything the first time this happened. I left my laptop open for about 20 minutes while i went away and did something else, when i returned there was a BSOD. I did a hard reset, and when I booted it up it said that it could not start windows. Then it gave me an option for troubleshooting. I ran this and it didnt make it through the process before giving me another BSOD. After restarting again, the laptop worked fine.

I was playing crysis last night, and during a load screen the computer froze and the same thing happened again as mentioned above. These are only two examples. This has happened several times already.

Another problem - The first time I used my cd drive (original starcraft), it would not run the autoplay. The "My computer" folder would hang up and when I tried using task manager to kill the process, task manager would freeze. Hard restart was the only way to fix this, and it would take me three or four tries before i could even get back into windows. I dunno if this is what fixed it, but i deleted the free trial of Norton that came with the laptop. Now the cd drive seems to be running fine.

One other thing, the first time i booted up crysis, there was wierd graphical fragments running to the center of the screen. I updated my graphics drivers to the latest after this, and everything works fine (graphics wise).

I know i have made some changes, but the BSOD were occuring before any changes. And to be honest, they have become less frequent after the changes they made, but still frequent (if that makes any sense).

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these problems? PLEASE HELP!!!

Try reinstalling Windows 7 fresh from CD?

Idk where you purchased yours from, but my E7405 has not had a single one of these problems from day 1. I hate Norton out of principle, but I seriously doubt it was responsible for anything but your CD drive problem. It doesn't sound like you've been using your laptop for very long, so I would say the possible gains from a fresh install of Windows 7 far outweigh any losses in progress with your computer so far.

I put a post up on the windows 7 forum with my dump files from the BSODs. If they can't help me there, then I'm just gonna try the fresh install.
