E16 Flip Touchpad Problem

I recently purchased an MSI E16 Flip and had intermittent touchpad failures. As I was swiping my finger across the touchpad, the cursor would stop. If I lifted my finger and began swiping again the cursor would move again but then stop again after some random time. I could not fix the problem and returned the laptop to MSI. I have a replacement on the way in hope that this is a problem associated with the single laptop I had purchased.

I thought I would touch base on this forum to see if anyone could offer a fix or comment on whether this problem is prevalent on all E16s.

I am looking to purchase this machine and wondering what your thoughts were overall? The specs are obviously impressive, but I have some specific questions if you don't mind? Firstly, how do you find the screen? Is there a wide viewing angle? Is it bright with good contrast? What about the keyboard - how is the key depth? How loud is the speaker volume and sound quality? What do you think of build quality and durability? Aside from the track pad issue (hopefully resolved), would you recommend this machine to a power user (non-gamer)? There are very few reviews or reports online.... hence the questions, Thanks so much in advance,

PS regarding the trackpad - some random thoughts on troubleshooting for what its worth: Have you tried upgrading to Windows 11? Does the track pad have a specific driver associated with it? Perhaps try uninstalling that? Have you tried using an external mouse? If the problem is evident with an external pointing device, it suggests that it is not a hardware problem, but a potential driver issue. It could be resolved with Windows or driver upgrade. Maybe contact MSI directly? Finally, is there a possibility that your fingers are slipping and track pad is registering some sort of short cut. Check the mouse settings to see if there are any special shortcuts that are associated with multi-finger touchers and are extraneous.

 

The screen is excellent and, with the exception of the trackpad, the machine is beyond impressive. After extensive troubleshooting including Windows and driver updates including Windows 11 and driver updates recommended by MSI the problem remained. I also tried several online recommendations. I did not try a separate mouse because I almost always use the trackpad on my laptops where I have never had this kind of issue. The MSI tech support folks I spoke to were not aware of this being a common problem, but since I experienced it with two different laptops, I suspect it probably is. As one comparative example, I tried hard to make the problem occur on my Dell XPS laptop and couldn't get it to happen.

I just bought an LG 17" on special but would be interested to find out if they fixed the problem.
