Im gonna be buying a 17 inch gaming laptop soon, however I would also like to buy a cheap and small laptop to take to lessons ect.
However im getting the mini laptop first, heres what I hope to do on it:
- Record guitar via USB and mic/line in using audacity - very important!
- Brose wifi from very long ranges ie the very edge of the wifi transmitting area..
- Watch videos, maybee dvds even if I have the usb dvd drive atached.
- Msn live
- I-tunes
- Photoshop
- Maybee the odd flash game/a bit of worns here and there.
Do you think that the MSI wind could fit the bill?

The wind was not made for cpu-intensive apps like photoshop. I also don't know how good it's range is but it's probably not the best out there given the price and size of the system. In terms of recording music, will it's 80 gb hard drive be sufficient? In terms of watching DVDs, the wind has a great screen but will a 10 inch screen be sufficient for your needs. You'd be better off watching them on your 17 incher.
I'm just raising a few possible areas in which the wind may not perform to your expectations but I still think the wind is probably the best subnotebook on the market right now and I'll definitely be getting the minute they have more in stock at shop.msicomputer.com -
Yeah I wont be gettig the 17 inch for a couple of months whilst I save for it, the 10 inch screen should be ok for movies though in full screen. How cpu intensive is guitar recording?

Anyone know whether the Pc world version has the ability to overclock as well?

Line-in recording is not cpu intensive. It will be fine on the cpu front. The CPU will ahve trouble with encoding music and with photoshop.

Sweet, looks like I might have to put an order in with PC world then. Might even get a review up if no one beats me to it
