I'm still waiting on the 6-cell versions... It seems like an eternity...
-
I am not sure about the release date for Asia, but Europe is still 2 weeks away, and in the USA the date seems to be 27th of June, so I dont think anybody has one yet.
The Linux version will come in August. And the 6cell some time around that too. -
I am looking forward to the Linux version. The Linux OS version on the Aspire One is pretty cool and easy for noobs use intuitively. This is now a real challenge to Windows OS as most soft ware for linux are free.

People in UK should already be having the Wind (or Advent). I wonder why it's so quiet in here.

It appears that a few people in UK have got the Advent 4211 from PC World.
However, none in stock in the branch near me so I can't get one in order to share my findings with you.
John -
We've got a couple of people in holland that got the Medion Akoya from Germany (Wind clone). They are very positive about it.

Thanks for the link.
-
Also, MSI Wind Forums has several threads about people who have their Medion/Advent clones already, lots of good info there.

It's so hard to just sit on this $400 for 2 months.
-
Got my wind yesterday. It rocks! I'm more than impressed.
-
lol, I have two now, and I am selling both of them, stupid bilingual keyboard... :S

I have the Advent badged Wind, having bought it to replace a Asus EeePC 900, it is better than the 900 in almost every respect.
Some thoughts:
It is a pleasure to have the 80 GB HDD, after spending the last few months having to continuously worry what I am installing and where it's installed. I can just install what I want without any issue.
The screen is excellent, the LED backlight makes it really bright and the colours are really intense in comparison.
The early reviews made out that the Atom is very similar to the Celeron 900, it isn't . There is a significant jump in performance, especially noticeable with intensive programs like Photoshop.
The 3 cell battery isn't too bad, I get around 2hours 40 minutes on a charge, around the same I got with the 4400mAh Eee900 battery.
The keyboard on the Advent is much nicer to use than the 900.
I haven't regretted buying the Advent at all, I actually sold the 900 the end of the same week that I bought the Advent. -
I dunno why some people are complaining about noise. To me, it's one of the quietest notebooks I've ever seen. But then again, I'm coming from an Asus W7J which can be pretty loud (and hot!).
-
I got the one with the Advent badge on it a week ago, replacing an Asus 701. From the things I've read the six cell battery is still some way off- a factory fire has caused the delay. The three cell battery isn't too bad though, and the PSU is in the middle of the mains lead and it's not too big or heavy.
There's also an updated BIOS sorting some problems. I had a suitable SODIMM so have upgraded the memory (maximum is 2Gb so biggest you can fit is a 1Gb module. A 2Gb doesn't work- I tried). and have a 250 Gb drive ready to put in, just trying to work out how to get that recovery partition copied- looking for free s/w to do this but may need to buy (only seen one program named as capable of this but no details. Anyone know how it's done and with what?
I think build is better than the Asus eeePC, and the machine seems more reliable- at least the F-keys are far more reliable than the Asus at working.
There have breen problems reported where it can lock up, not responding to the power key so not switching on. Seems to happen when battery runs dead flat, and one other circumstance I can't recall at the moment. Easily sorted (although it appears a number of people returned their machines-). remove mains and battery for 10-20 seconds. Plug mains back in (leave battery off) and switch on. It may take a couple of goes but it will boot up. Switch off, replace battery and let it charge for a little time if dead flat, all should be back to normal.
The update to 1.05 BIOS is supposed to sort a few things according to the notes- using battery mode to browse website or play Windows XP bundled Pinball / Heart game for about 20 minutes, the screen will flicker for a second. The LCD panel backlight turn off while using U100 under battery mode to play music file with Microsoft Media Player for a while. I hadn't seen reports posted of these issues, but had seen some related to the other fix, they say fixes 'If you press and hold the power button for more than 2 seconds to make the system power on, the system will power on then shut down immediately'
Definitely like this machine. And more than the Asus eeePC which I also like.
Anyone know yow to get at those hidden partition file to copy them? I will get there but if anyone knows I'd be grateful. -
hi everyone,
I'm new to the whole Wind subject, but really excited about.
What's with the hold up? I've been looking all over us e-shops for one, but they're all out of stock. On the other hand there are reviews on newegg of ppl, who got theirs, so?
When can we expect the new shippment of Winds' in the us?
And will these new laptops have a 6cell battery?
Do you guys know a place, where I can preorder one of these babies?
Thanks in advance! -

Yeah I haven't been able to find them online either.
When they come back though they will probably have a 6 cell option, since MSI planned to really launch the 6 cell in August anyway. >.<
Let me know if you end up finding a Wind somewhere and I'll do the same!
Hope this helps... -

But, if MSI came out with a special edition like this:

Then I would be all over that.*Drools*
NOTE: Newegg now says the estimated day it'll have the Wind in stock is the 10th... -

I just ordered myself a 3 Cell in Black.
Hope this helps! -
You know there are 6 cell Winds in stock all over the place right?
Or did you only want 3 cells? -
FrostyComputers sells them with 6 cell batteries on ebay right now, this is from the sam seller i got my gx-610 from, scroll down to see his wind pictures and explanation. $645

Oh never i just saw it on newegg for a cheaper price but it is out of stock, but if whoever wants it doesn't mind waiting for newegg to restock it, you can get it for cheaper. -
$645 is a ripoff, they can easily be had for $100 less than that. Stores in Canada are swimming with stock.
-
Hey i don't care where they buy it i was just showing them that the 6 cell ones are already out and cause the ones at newegg were out of stock
-

Also, I think a 6 Cell battery on its own will be less than $50 so I'd rather just buy one on it's own for cheaper, and have a 3 Cell as backup. -
I like the 3 cell cause it is small and light, and I'm not usually far from a power source for long enough to need more life anyways. -

I just bought one from Staples today for $529cnd thats the best price ive seen up here. Its pretty neat. I want to install the apple OS. I've never used apple before so i figure maybe I'll give it a try. Maybe Vista too. I have an unused COA for vista so maybe I'll try that first.
Does anyone here have a Wind yet?
