I haven't seen anything from MSI that shows it is IPS. The models that we have seen come through our production haven't been that way either (otherwise, we would update our site to show IPS for them).

On MSI's site it is just listed as a "17.3"Full HD eDP Wide View Angle" and would normally label IPS in there if it is.

    http://us.msi.com/product/nb/GE72-Apache-Pro-GTX-970M/#hero-specification

Normally, if something is IPS, it will be listed that way. Otherwise, it is generally TN.

It should be a TN panel, albeit a fairly good one.

Are there currently any MSI laptops that use IPS screens? (1920x1080)

The GT72 using 5th gen processors are using IPS panels, but double check with your reseller directly for a particular model that you are interested buying.

    I have the GE72 2QF. 4-gen i7-4720HQ, 970m, etc.

My panel is "LG Phillips LP173WF4-SPF1" every little bit of searching told me, that this is an IPS panel, AH-IPS.

    Proof: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B26OHbig8MS2Y1h6LTkwYkI4T1U/view?usp=sharing

When I bought it, I thought it was going to be the "Chimei CMN1735 TN panel" but I prefer the "Phillips LP173WF4-SPF1 much more, ofc!"

Yup, it is AH-IPS panel, a better choice than Chimei.

I agree. But I did not have a choice, in selecting the lcd panel type.

It's just like a /random 100, where you hope for the upper 80 or 90 ish.

This is an upgrade, however not an expected one.
Normally, MSI would advertise "IPS" but they did not even mention this, so supposedly Chimei is the stock panel. So it's like "if you get it, great, but if not, sorry."

There is a LP173WF4 SPF1 on ebay. I have the MSI GT 72 2QE-211. Would it be safe to assume this IPS is a direct replacement for the TN Chimei panel that shipped with the laptop from MSI? I've contacted MSI but they haven't provided me with an upgrade option through them yet. I provide IT assistance for my employer and going from others' laptop to mine is hard and the definite blue hue is killing my eyes. I have tried different settings and I'm currently running the notebookreview icc profile, which helps some.
