Just got it today from UPS and I'm quite disappointed in the screen. Everything else seems to be excellent, though.
It's like the screen just isn't bright enough ...even on max brightness = / I would return it for a replacement, but that's another 50$ in UPS and the loss of premium thermal paste, plus another 50$ UPS + paste for the new model I would choose, so I'd lose too much money over it. It gets SO bad when I try to compose music in FL Studio/Reason ...ugh.
The screen is also making me nautious/dizzy when I read compared to my other laptop/school computers.
Not sure why MSI decided to be so cheap. HD + additional brightness could of made this laptop an excellent choice for anyone.
I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone. Buy something with a good screen.

Perhaps you got a faulty screen? Post some screenshots.
-
You got what you paid for. You should have purchased an Alienware or a Mobile workstation if you want a great display.
-
I completely agree, it's a really grainy display... it's a massive shame
But I'm going to send mine back and get a refund. -
It's unfortunate to hear this. i had heard mixed things about the 740 screen, and ended up getting a gx640. I'm fairly happy with the screen on the gx640. It could be a little brighter, but it isn't bad at all, not grainy and pretty sharp.
-
I thought the E7405 was just a rebranded GX740... I LOVE my screen, very crisp and rich, and mid-brightness settings are plenty for my taste
-
yeah no probs here, as for Fruity Loops thats the programs fault (its a toy)
Cubase looks great and VSTs -
I love the display on this, granted its no LED HD TV but its still nice and crisp and have no qualms about it
-
What do you guys mean by grainy? If you don't like the screen, too bad and return it.
-
I have the e7405 and it is definitely grainy.
Not really an issue in-game though. It's a problem only if you look for it. -
I'm quite happy with display. No issues. I would have liked a higher resolution, but a small sacrificed for such a nicely priced system.
-
Try Asus, next time. -

I agree that the GX740's display is not as sharp as others, and it's a shame that it's not an LED backlight. That said, I find it perfectly acceptable for my needs.
-
I've had my E7405 for about a couple weeks now, and I must say i'm pretty satified with the screen. Very crisp, and vibrant colours. Well to me at least. It is my first notebook anyways, so i can't really compare.
-
I have the Samsung 170MT02-G01 and the screen is below average. -
Samsung 170MT02-G01
Same monitor as you have. But this is my first laptop, so i have nothing to compare it too other than my old desktop monitor. Which by the way is an LG LCD with matte surface. -
The only reason I say this screen is below average is because when I'm looking at a white space( the sides of this forum for example), up close you can see the screen is grainy.
The constrast is perfect, but the brightness is below average.
Only good thing about this screen is that on lowest brightness to save power, the screen is still very bright. -
Yeah, I have seen brighter screens on laptops in stores. It is definitely brighter than my old desktop monitor though. But for me, the screen is plenty bright enough. I find that bright screens hurt my eyes after a long time staring at it.
May seem weird, but I actually only use my screen at half brightness except when playing games. -
The screen is fine for me also, except when I'm on this forum, where a lot of the page is white >.>

okay another thing I'm starting to notice with the screen is that sometimes on a white space the pixels sort of "dance" randomly.
it goes away after a few minutes, anyone else gets it?
I think it's related to the graininess of the sceren. -
I have a kick (Full HD, 20000:1 contrast) monitor connected to the laptop (sometimes I like to use extended desktop). And graininess of the screen is normal under a white background. Based only on my opinion when i place the same photo on both monitor its looks identical.
I have no complains with the monitor. I consider it of great quality at the price of the laptop itself. But like I said it based on my opinion. -
Hmm do you mind downloading HWinfo32 and looking up the name of your screen?
-
The laptop monitor is a Samsung 170MT02-G01.
The external monitor is a Acer H213H. -
same screen as mine...
Maybe I am just nitpicking then... But the brightness is definitely not very high and as for graininess maybe I'm expecting it to be perfectly clear.
Definitely not as bad as these screens:
-
To be fair, those laptops are worth what, 500-700$/ a piece?
The GX740 is 1349(or 99)$ + tax/fees, so for something that amounts to 1600$, the customer should get a GOOD screen. Not asking for Brightview (Envy's), but just an Asus-Like screen, that's in HD and backlit -
Also the graininess of those photo might have to do with the iso count of the picture. In other words, picture quality. You can notice the graininess across the whole picture.
Unless you focusing on brightness, and my screen definably brighter than those. -
yea its not the best screen ive ever used.
-
i suffer same issue on my GX720. aweful brightness, and it looks grainy compared to my older Toshiba P305. P305 had a GORGEOUS, bright, but glare, LCD. I guess this has to do with matte vs glossy displays?
-
I really dont see the graininess. It's bright, but still, this computer is a bargain when it comes to performance/dollar, so I live with the screen (not nearly as good as on my Znote 6224), and enjoy it blazing through Bioshock 2
-
As the times went on I've pretty much grown accustomed to the laptop, screen doesn't really bother me anymore.
Disappointed in GX740 Screen
