Hello there, I tried searching with no luck..

I am looking at possibly purchasing one of these laptops. I am on Newegg, and they are the same price (after rebate). Is the E7405 newer? They look to have almost identical specs. If the E7405 is newer did they fix the necessary bios flash that was needed on the GX740?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Steve

I purchased my E7405 at the beginning of September and it needed vBIOS flash (didn't need BIOS flash though).

E7405 should come with a 320GB HDD instead of 500GB.

THe E7405 also comes with an i5-430m processor compared to the i7-720qm the GX740 comes with I believe.

No there's different versions of the GX740...

If he's trying to compare the two we can assume the GX740 he's talking about also has the i5.

Looks like he is comparing the same notebook, just a different name.

One has an extra year of warranty, the other has a better CPU.

    Too close to call IMO.

The vbios should not be a problem, would take 10mins to update if needed.

Thank you for your help. How is the MSI warranty? Is there a big difference in the two processors? I also noticed one 5870 is the Broadway XT version, does this make a difference? I guess I just dont understand why they would have almost two identical models for damn near the same price...

id take the year of warranty over the pretty much insignificant increase in cpu, if you want a better CPU a 450 vs 430 won't satiate your needs

Thank you for your responses. I will do my best to make this my last question. This VBIOS update thing, is that something a pretty big noob like myself can handle updating, or are all the HOW TO's going to be in complete computer jargon that I wont understand? I also that that someone can F up there PC pretty bad if they do it wrong which kind of makes me nervous..
