    I think so yes, though watch out the 69xx series have not been the most reliable.

    is it a strait fit? No worries man, mine works rock solid and am selling it to get something more powerful :) Would a 5870m MSI gpu work in my Alienware m17x R3? (just till I get my 7970m)

    I think so, the 5870 heatsink in the MSI does need a little modding if I remember correctly.

    Like Meaker has said it will work fine, but the heasink will require a slight mod. If you search on here you will find the mod fairly easily. Its very easy. A 6970m, 6990m, and 7970m will all work, and will require a slight mod of the 5870m heatsink. Or you can buy an official MSI 7970m heatsink from Majester MSI (PM him on these boards) and you can buy one for a direct fit and no mods.
