So I bought a stock MSI GS70 970m laptop and I enjoy it a lot. It gets crazy hot on the body which I don't like, but the internal temps never got above 90 degrees Celsius and in most cases never above 85. The only other thing I don't like is the trackpad location. But as the video describes, the enter key is messed up on my system.
I called Xotic PC and they said they don't offer a "replacement" or exchange program. The way it works is I have to return the unit for a refund, then I can buy another unit or a different unit. Or they can start a Warranty issue with MSI for me.
It's inconvenient either way. It sucks for sure and I wish they had a better program for these kind of hick ups. Oh well, I'm still happy with Xotic PC over all.
Anyone have experience with MSI's warranty process? What's the turnaround?
I just want the laptop back as soon as possible.

MSI is usually pretty quick when you send it to them directly. They will always quote 5-9 business days, but recently there have been posts from other people who used it and said their computer was shipped back within a week of MSI receiving it.
You can set up the service with MSI directly or we'll be happy to help set it up for you. -
The issue is just the sound it makes when pressed? Ask MSI directly and check with them if they allow you to manually pull the key out and see what might be causing it. Personally, I wouldn't send it just for a clicking sound, only if the keyboard was indeed defective and didn't work.

Not into repairing yourself? Quite easy to 'pop' the plastic top off and check what's amiss (keep laptop running and press on the transparent rubber thingy). You may have it working again in 5 minutes tops ... If that didn't help you could buy a replacement keyboard and swap it, that's exactly what MSI will do and Xotic might, if they had replacements in stock.
Edit:
Thingy = " dome", remember now. -

GL in getting that repaired and hope mine doesn't have that issue.

Well I just called both MSI and XoticPC and what XoticPC told me is wrong completely which frustrates me a lot. Secondly, I just bought this laptop and I don't understand why XoticPC won't exchange it. They said I have to return the laptop and they'll process a return and I have to pay for shipping.
I feel like they should just exchange it with a new unit and pay for the shipping of both the return and new unit. I'm seriously probably never gonna buy from them again. This is my second laptop from them, the first one was great, this one not so much and I'm thinking it's too much of a hassle dealing with it.
I'm gonna call them again tomorrow morning, to see if there's something else I can do, or is it really the only option I have. If it is the only option then I'll do it, have no choice really, but I'll never buy from them again. -
Okay I let my emotions get the best of me before fully understanding the situation. I spoke with XoticPC again and the reason why they can't just exchange it is because they're not a "retailer." They consider themselves a boutique that sells custom PCs and laptops and their system reflects this. Most people buy custom computers from XoticPC and since I bought a unmodified laptop, their system still treats it as a custom build. So because of this, a simple exchange isn't easy. It has to be refunded and the funds from the refund are then used for a whole new system, an exchange more or less, but a very slow exchange.
So they offered me options to get around this as fast as possible and those were my choices.
In light of this, I no longer harbor bad feelings for the company, they're trying to help me out the best they can. I do know one thing though going forward, I won't buy stock computers from them, I'll only buy modified computers like I did with my Asus G750. Stock builds I'll stick to retailers.
Anyway life goes on and I'll stick with the MSI warranty repair. At least XoticPC is paying for the shipping which MSI won't if it's a warranty exchange so that's nice I guess. -
I have read a few horror stories of people who have done "upgrades" to their systems through the boutiques only to receive their systems scratched up and poorly handled by the tech who did the servicing. I would much rather just open my factory sealed laptop myself, and change the parts out myself if necessary.
However other users on these forums have had great experiences and usually only purchase their systems through the little shops. I suppose it all really depends on your needs and luck of the draw.vahdyx likes this. -
Like I said my first experience was good, not the best but good enough to make me think I should order from them again, but I'm sticking with a retailer going forward.

if you would have got the ICD repaste, perhaps they would have checked the system throoughly before shipping
