Now the DVD drive on my GT70 0ND Win 7 cannot read any discs; be it DVD-RWs or Data CDs!
Every disc entered is ejected and reads:
Am I missing something here?
I then used an external USB DVD burner (same software) which successfully (on the first go) burned one of the three rejected DVD-RWs.
XOTIC PC is making me quite irate!![]()
This damn laptop should have been thoroughly tested before sending out!
I didn't shell out all of my bloody hard-earned money to end up with something inferior!
Incidentally, the MSi box had been perforated (two inch gash) in transit which had penetrated both boxes.
Fortunately it was towards the end where the cardboard insert is located. No visible damage occurred to laptop.

Did the drive work prior? Drives go out all the time. Could be just defective drive and bad luck on you..
-
It didn't as I have just started using it.
Can't seem to get a break here!
You know I should have just bought from a big store.
I had thought by going through a specialised tech reseller that I would get a decent unit! -
I have had drives, die after one use, right out of box, hell had on dvd burner that would only read disc and not write.
I just know they can be faulty like any other part. You just seem to be having a run of bad luck. best bet is to call and talk to Xotic and see what they say. -
I have already contacted their service department. It was obvious that sticker incident was the tip of the iceberg. They'll probably deny of any wrong doing.
Should be dispatched a Blu-Ray in place of.
You know the irony of this matter is that I had replaced a DVD-RW drive for my old Fujitsu which this MSi replaced.
Having it in for not near a week, the GPU then goes out on it. So you can see my utter frustration with this!
As for the MSi warranty: I have already registered online, however they want a receipt (never received one with order) mailed within 30 days.
I only have a couple days from now before that expires. I thought by registering online and giving away personal info (not pleased) you'd be good to go? -
Had this same problem once before. Worked on pc for hours trying to figure out with no luck, reinstall windows and it work fine.

Well I was just thinking of perhaps reinstalling the drivers for the DVD, which I discovered is made by Lite-On.
I was planning to reinstall Windows anyway, since I just got a SSD drive which I was going to make as the primary.
Guess I'll give that a go and see what happens. -
I know with one lite on dvd burner on my pc i had to flash new firmware onto the drive to get it functioning. could check liteons site for firmware and try that

Try a firmware or driver update (already suggested and taken with a grain of salt). There really shouldn't be any reason to do a format + reload just to get the optical drive functioning.
Typically, a unit undergoes stress tests before it's sent out for quality assurance. It could very well be damage via mishandling in transit - especially considering the gash you mentioned. Even though there was no apparent damage to the unit, that gash could be evidence of poor [mis]handling. -
The optical drive is DS8A8SH. Hard luck on me!
I tried burning another DVD-RW after uninstalling the drive from the device manager but still no luck. -

How about the Lite-On Firmware Update Tool?

I have my Lite-On DS8A8SH in an external USB enclosure since putting a caddy with my Vertex 2 in the optical drive bay.
