I thought I would pass a question along here because I am coming up empty handed. I had someone ask me if there is a way to control the fan speed on the MSI GT60-0NE with the 680M. Playing Guild Wars 2, the fan will crank up to near 100%, and then throttle back down, only to crank back up. Quite annoying not to have it run at a steady speed, made worse by the large swings in volume. We tried the current and beta driver, both exhibit the same behavior.

I admit, that is the loudest notebook I have ever heard. I have a Sager NP8150 and the MSI drowns out my Sager playing side by side, this is WITHOUT running turbo on the MSI. Thoughts? Is the only option to run with the turbo mode on, in which case you need head phones to drown out the fan speed, no exaggeration.

Tried repasting the heatsink and cleaning the fan/fin assembly?

Also, might wanna try MSi afterburner to control the fan speed.

The notebook was just purchased, and when I inquired about opening the bottom, I received quite a shock. MSI appearently does not allow you to open the notebook for any reason. In order to gain access to the components, you must remove a sticker that says the warranty is void if removed. That is unbelievable to me, but there it is nevertheless. I might have misspoke, what is the afterburner? Is that the option which allows you to turn the fan speed on full? That is what I am referencing by saying turbo.

I also own a GT60 0ne and play GW2 on it regularly. however, i am not experiencing 100% fan at any point. I am using the 'fan boost button' as 100%. I am actually surprized how quiet the notebook is under load. I can hear the fan, but it is not disturbing.

first, what temps are you getting on your CPU and GPU?

Next, What kind of thermal paste did you get? any other cooling upgrades? do you use a notebook cooler? are your vents clear? ambient temp in the room?

Run some temp measures and lets see what where to go from there, i am pretty much a noob in this area, but since i have the same notebook as you and run the same game, i'll check my temps when i get home from work and post them in here.

To my knowledge, even if you were to access the components, your warranty isn't void. I believe that only applies if anything inside is damaged. But I'll let someone else confirm that, as I'm not entirely 100% sure, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I am basing this off of memory, as I do not have access to the notebook. The notebook was bought off Newegg, so the thermal paste was stock. The notebook was on a notebook cooler it was less than a week oldso I would be surprised if I vent was block. It was at my place, so ambient temperature was around 70-72 degrees F.

As for temperatures, I do not recall what the CPU was running at, but I do remember the GPU was around 85-90 degrees F, seemed reasonable to me comparing it to my Sager.

Manually setting the fan to full with that touch button, you really do not find the volume of the fan offensive? Even the game music at normal volume was not enough to drown out the fan noise.

yes when i put the fan on full with the touch button, it is loud and disturbing. however, when i'm playing playing GW2 (or any other game i've tried) it has never reached that fan level. The fan is actually pretty quiet when paying GW2 in my experience so far, revs up a little every now and then, but nowhere near the "turbo fan mode". sorry, i wasnt clear in my post above.
