Motherboard MS-16F21 Version 2.0 died (my barebones notebook of GT683DXR)
Managed to find a new motherboard, but it's serial number is MS-16F21 Version 1.1. (Original GT683DXR)
Everything seems exacatly same, haven't found any differences yet. Also the retailer said the same thing and didn't see why it shouldn't work.

    Now to the point:

Have my laptop back together now with new mobo. Issues come when I try to boot into OS or install one.
Everytime it crashes or bsod at loading screen, tried with ubuntu, win7, win8 . With safe mode it goes until it reaches disk.sys driver. Every single time.
I've so far tried changing rams, no hard drives, no dvd drive, booting from dvd, no battery-power cable only, tried almost every setting in BIOS.. crashes same way.

possilby bios being funny with drivers?

    Any ideas thoughts appreciated
    Thanks

What is your HDD controller set to? AHCI or raid? Try flipping it to see if that helps.

You could try flashing the 16F2 bios to the motherboard (people have done it).

I call BIOS issue. Have you checked to see if the BIOS utility detects the hard drive correctly? You can try the flash as Meaker suggested; just keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't cause you any more grief.

People (including myself) have flashed back and forth between the two so you can always move back.

Did try switching between controllers, no difference.
BIOS does show me correctly when HHDs are connected though.

I'll look into flashing, seems to be the issue and hopefully does the trick.

    - Good news I didn't brick my new mobo

    - Bad news exactly same results. Tried flashing the couple of MS-16F2 roms. (I did recognize the same bios as I had on my orignal mobo, but still crashes at disk.sys)

I'll try look through more bios settings, see if I find anything.
But for some reason I have a bad feeling about my graphics memory though..

Also, I have a gtx570m gpu, not 100% sure if I had the correct bios. Would that make the difference?

Thanks guys for the ideas and help.

    not given up yet..

one of the ram sticks was gone bad, borrowed one from another laptop, still same with that one only. (bit strange that one just went bad though)
    still crash at disk.sys
..07b bsd most of the times

bit of nailbitey with flashing bioses, but so far nothing good or bad has come of it.

Anyone knows if different versions of ms-16f2 notebooks have the same bioses or am I wrong on that?
If they are different, is there a bios for this floating around anywhere? gtx 570m version GenTech PC - MSI MS-16F2 GTX570M or GTX580M (GT683DXR Barebone)

Not sure what you mean by "..07b bsd".

Have you tried to change HDD's place? It may be the problem perhaps. Check the link below, look for the answer at the end of the page:
Solved: disk.sys Stop Error - Tech Support Guy Forums

It's not a laptop related thread, but it may help, you never know :)
To cover all the bases, you may also want to try your HDD on dvd-rom slot with a HDD caddy.

aa haven't written down the full code, but it's the blue screen of death error code ending.

the overall problem is that I can't boot into any OS. Seems like a it has a problem with hard drive configuration being funny, not sure though..
I did play around with different hard drives and different setups..no difference, might something I'm missing.

Digged out xp and tried installing aswell, that crashes at installing drivers.

that dvd rom slot might be a good idea, I'll give that a shot. ;)
    thanks

    mhh..
would a sata error cause even grub to crash..?
thought I'll give ubcd a try, but it just crashes at the main menu screen.
Tried different versions of debians aswell, same thing - frozen as soon as debian logo came on with menu.

but still, not given up yet

After a while I picked this up again and a solution!

Turned out the actual i5-2430M cpu was gone bad.

Bit of a strange symptom for bad cpu (system is able post and access bios and all that, but can't boot into any OS).
    But yeah it lives again.
