Hello everyone, I noticed a super annoying coil whine-like sound in my MSI gt72vr... It is the rare version with i7-6820HK. Whenever the processor goes over 3 GHz and is not under much load, the laptop produces noticeable coil whine-like noise (it is not the power adapter). It disappears when I switch to eco or balanced power mode... Should I be concerned about it? It is super annoying, when I play a game I hear nothing, alt tab out of it - whine appears, alt tab back into game, it disappears again (on sport mode).

It's normal. Skylake and Kaby Lake laptops have coil whine 80% of the time.

I see... from your profile it seems you have the asus gl502vt, does it then also have noticeable coil whine in quiet room (enough that you hear it without putting your ear up to it, just sitting normally).

Mine is a noticeable buzz at idle/light gaming which can be heard from a sitting position over the fans and a whine under heavy load which can still be heard over fans. It's normal.

It's always there, but sometimes they aren't noticeable and sometimes they are very noticeable. It also has to do with one's perception of noise.
