Hi all! I recently flashed the attached vBIOS to a Clevo 7970M in a MSI 16F2. I installed Catalyst 13-1 drivers but I'm having an issue with DirectX support...

    • Windows Aero is disabled because it doesn't see a card that is WDDM supported.
    • Attempted to run 3D Mark Vantage and it says "DirectX 10 card not detected"

I checked GPU-z and it shows up as DirectX 11 compatible. I also tried updating DirectX but it says that I already have the most recent version installed.

Marecki_CLF has experience with MSI upgrades; he can probably point you in the right direction. It sounds like a mismatched vBIOS to me. Have you tried another driver?

I can't see an attached file, generally speaking cards want the vbios they were shipped with and the 16F2 should not care which vbios is on it (at least the dell 7970M I had was happiest with the stock vbios).

Did the clevo vbios not work?

It's the same vBIOS I use in my GX740.

I think it's because You have 2nd gen. Core i CPU with IGP. The mentioned programs might be trying to use the IGP instead of dGPU. Try to find a way (possibly in CCC) to force these applications to use the dGPU. You may want to check the Sager/Clevo subforum for more information.

My laptop has 1st gen. Core i7, so no IGP - my system always uses dGPU.

    It's all my speculation though...

Second thought, IGP should run Aero for sure and possibly 3DMark as well...

See what dxdiag has to say as well (run dxdiag from run dialogue box or type 'dxdiag' in Start search field).
