    Hi,

I just got the MSI GE 72 - 2QF (970m - i7 5700hq) and I note that the battery discharges then I plugged the charger.
This only happens when I play big games like GTA 5, for 1 hour of games I lose about 5% battery.
Is that the charger does not would powerful enough for this pc ?

    Thank you

that might be the case, by design. Recent MSI laptops leverage extra power from the battery, to ensure full power for both the CPU and GPU during intensive games. But it depends on your PSU rating and hardware, to see how often it would happen.

If your PSU is 150w, then that is bound and even expected to happen. If it is 180w, it should happen considerably less and only during very taxing scenarios.

    Hi Ryzeki,
I think my PSU is 100-240v, i have take and upload a photo, you can confirme ?

So if I understand this is normal and there is no danger or damage the battery or the PC long term?

Your PSU is 150W indicated by model number ADP-150VB and you can also get PSU watt by multiplying these two numbers 19.5V 7.7A.

I suggest to always plugged in while playing game, to ensure full power for CPU and GPU and the battery will never get overcharged since it will stop charging when reach 100%.

There should be no danger at all. You could say it is an inconvenience at most, but that's it. My GT60 does this with a 180W PSU too, and after years of gaming and use, my battery is still heatlhy and working.

What could be an interesting test, is to try a 180w PSU and see if it helps, but it will depend if the EC was configured to limit power up to 150W.

Anyways, I will see if I can get any confirmation regarding this usage. It does seem normal to me.

i hope that the 180w psu will work with the msi ge72 , because i dont think if the 150w psu will give the laptop the right power .

i will wait for more information :)

Edit : i saw this review for the msi ge62 with nvidia 970m
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GE62-GTX-970M-Notebook-Review.142465.0.html

and they said : the great performance lead requires merely a little more power: an additional 10 W is consumed by the GTX 970M configuration while gaming.

do you think that's true ? i cant believe that nvidia 970m require just 150w psu .
