Alright so I put my comp in sleep(gx 640), tried to bring it out and the screen stayed black so I restarted. It gets past the "starting windows" thing but the screen stays black. I tried a few times and waited a while but it would never start. I then booted into safe mode(successfully), then uninstalled the disp. drivers. I rebooted the computer normally(successfully) but with no gpu drivers, and windows found and installed them, and the computer rebooted fine. They were outdated however so I uninstalled them and when I tried to reinstall the new ones it said it cannot find the appropriate adapter. My gpu is since I'm running the old drivers right now and can play games at full speed, but it will not allow me to install the new drivers. Any help is appreciated. The ccc version is 10.4 but the display driver is 8. something.

You have to disable Powerplay in Catalyst Control Center. This is a common problem and has been discussed often here.
