Hi, all. Recently I bought the GE60 which comes with 4 speakers. But there is no quadraphonic mode in the Realtek HD Audio Manager which only has stereo mode. My Realtek driver is the latest version (6.0.1.6690) and my OS is Windows 8. Can anyone tell me how to solve this? The 4 speakers can be detected individually on Ubuntu or without the Realtek driver on Windows (Using the default driver provided by Microsoft).

I believe the speaker wiring still conforms to stereo (2 audio channels), no? You don't have a 4.1 system - you have 2.1 with 4 satellites and a sub, I think.

Thanks for reply. But then what are the other 2 speakers for? I mean 2 speakers are enough for stereo, right?

I could be wrong about how the channels are driven here, but if this is really the case, it's sort of a pseudo-surround system. Personally I think it's more of a gimmick, from what I've read about 4-speaker stereo setups. Although it has the potential to double the ohms. Whether that's the case here or not, I'm not entirely sure.

And if I recall correctly, the GE60 actually has no sub - just the 4 satellites.

There is a Quadraphonic setting in the Realtek HD Audio Manager drop down menu.

I'm using Realtek HD Audio driver v6.0.1 build 6828 in my GT780DX with the menu set to 5.1 since there's no 2.1 in order to get sound from the subwoofer and switching center for sub and unchecking rear and surround.

Yes, there is no subwoofer. I just wonder why Windows' and Ubuntu's default driver can recognize 4 while the Realtek HD Audio driver can recognize 2 only.
