Hi. I'm thinking of getting a MSI laptop next month (possibly the month after), and I'm thinking of something like the GT70 0ND-622AU (can't afford anything higher, and I'd get the Haswell and nVidia 700 series equivalent). It only comes with a 750GB HDD, and no SSD so I was wondering if it'd be easy enough to add a SSD later on to it (keeping the 750GB HDD).
Will it have the mSATA slots if it doesn't come with any mSATA SSD, or would it be possible to put in a 2.5" SSD?
Thanks

You should be able to add an SSD without issues. Depending on the configuration, it can come with the msata slots (but this means it comes stock with msata SSDs in RAID). If it does not come with super raid, you should not have problems fitting the SSD of your preference.
Be sure to ask your reseller if you want to clarify particular brands, types etc or if you feel like configuring one on the get go -
Awesome, thanks

Yes, you can add a SSD in any 2.5" bay. Not sure on the mSATA on this unit yet, but generally they will highlight that in the system specs if it's available. You can't populate the slot with a standard 2.5" drive though.

on the new platform with roumored 3 msata slots in one 2,5 inch drive bay, i'd haggle to see if they can come with the adapter with no msata drives installed, loosing 3 msata slots for just one 2,5" drive to me is not a good deal

In terms of the warranty, from what I've seen, putting in a SSD would void the warranty if it's not done by MSI? -

Changing the HDD should not void warranty. Usually that is reserved when messing with the CPU.

Oh, I see, I just misread it - if a problem was caused by an installation/modification not by MSI, then you don't qualify to get it fixed for free (not the same thing as voiding it for all problems).

Right; they're just covering their tracks as far as accidental damage goes.
Now, if you accidentally broke the sATA connector for the drive, that would not be covered. But if you install a SSD and then something unrelated goes wrong per wear and tear/system defect, you're fine as long as you're within the coverage period. -
do take note that from what I have heard(just heard) some resellers will put on their own warranty stickers and state that your warranty would be void if the sticker is broken, do check with the store you purchase the machine from, and get a confirmation from MSI in your country regarding the manufacturer warranty with the machine from that seller(if they add their own warranty) because in some occasions there will be a chance that MSI will not grant a warranty repair on machines coming from certain shops after showing the proof of purchase(its stupid because they provide the warranty not to machines manufactured by them but instead the invoice they approve of, typical case is with the barebones, they come from MSI but are not warranted by MSI)

Yeah, that makes sense.
For the warranty, the places over here all say "2 years MSI pickup and return" for the warranty. That implies MSI will do the warrant repairs, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure. Thanks for pointing that out. -
Can a SSD be installed
