Hey guys, I have the GX740 with the i7 740, and the Ati Radeon 5870m. Is there any way that I can install newer drivers then the ones that were released with the system? Is it possible to installed the latest CCC? I think I'm running 11.1 or 11.3. I think when I bought it a couple months back second hand I tried to install the latest mobility drivers and it said that it only supported the graphics drivers from the manufacturer??? Is this so? Maybe I can flash the bios so I can install the latest CCC drivers?

    Thanks for the help.. :)

Looking at the driver package says 8.732

Most people update the video drivers beyond what the OEM/reseller provides, since the latter is almost always outdated (even if it is tested and known to be stable). Issues seldom arise with updating the drivers beyond what the manufacturer or reseller has for download; it's just that they can't necessarily recommend anything beyond what they've tested.

You're welcome to give it a shot. :) Worst case is you'll have to roll back to the latest working/stable drivers your card/system supports.

Thanks for the reply, wasn't sure cause I read where MSI laptops with intel chipset had to use Vendor specific drivers. Gave it a shot, got a blue screen, which initialized a memory dump. Restarted the laptop, went into safe mode to remove what AMD was able to get install before the BSOD. Started the uninstall process, another BSOD. So I booted normal, was able to open CCC and the version showed CCC 13.4 and the driver dated assigned to the device in device manager showed 4/28/13...So it took it, which was weird, so I fired up Skyrim for S and G's, expecting a BSOD. Ran nice, hell better then those drivers from 2010. :) ...wierd stuff..

Maybe I should go back, remove all the video drivers with ati remover and try a straight clean install with the latest version of CCC? I don't want to push it since it's working, might not be that lucky second time around right?

Well you certainly won't brick anything! You may run into another headache is all. ;) CCC/AMD has been the beast of burden for a lot of people though when it comes to drivers and Enduro. Same as before: by all means, give a clean install of CCC a shot. Sometimes updating over existing drivers causes oddities like that - in which case a clean install is ideal to troubleshoot it.
