Hey,
About 8 month ago I bought a MSI gx720. As soon as I got it, I noticed there was 2 ripple marks on the lcd screen when i opened and closed the lid (pressure from the plastic borders on the lcd itself). I later got a dusk inside the screen so i send it to RMA to get both probs fixed.
It came back without the dust particle, but the main problem was not fixed, I still get the bottom of the plastic pressing on the screen when I open/close it (hinges feel way too tight.)
Problem now is...this:

Thats right, plastic cracked right where i get the ripple mark on the lcd (not surprising, seeing how the whole thing bends when moving the cover) not too big, but obviously gonna get worse (and this is a desktop replacement, I mean I only close open it 3 days in a whole month, the rest of the time it sits on my desk)
So what do I do, what do I tell the RMA people? what are my options? can they NOT do something about it? can they still not listen to what i tell them? what are my legal options if not? cause i am mighty sick.
your help and experience is appreciated, cheers.

I'd take actions into your own hands and try to rebuild the screen again, just to see if there is anything you can do to relieve the pressure?
I believe your probably the first used i've experienced with this problem. -
I wonder if there isn't a loose screw in there? If it cracked it means that the different parts are not moving as a whole.
-
Yup, this is the first complaint I've heard about the 1722 chasis quality.
-
From what it feels, its the hinged being way too tight. but there is no screw for those. but shouldn't this be covered by warranty?
-
My GX720 the hinges are tight I hope it dont do that.

MSI support should have logged your complaint about the screen. Hopefully you can use that as a reference to this being a preexisting problem with the laptop. I would think they would replace the screen bezel at least.

i had tight hinges on an acer aspire 5585...
i took a drop of oil, and used the back of a knife blade to drip oil onto the exposed part of the hinges, and the tightness was gone.
(i take no responsibility for anything that goes wrong though - i'm just saying this worked for me) -

Wow that really sucks dude... The only problem I've ever had with this chasis is the paint rubbing off, and I though I had bad luck.

Wow, im sorry to hear....that sucks
-
Hum, i'll try the grease stuff. I hope they replace the bezel tho :/

Same problem with my GX720. The plastic display howsing cracked.

Odd, what are you folks doing wth it playing tenis?
I've dropped my machine...twice and am having no problems with it!
Hmm care to take some more pictures? -
One thing, when you open/close the lid, do you hold it in the center of the screen when lifting up (or use both hands), OR are you opening the lid bu pulling up on one corner.
For bigger screen sizes particularly, opening/closing the lid from one corner can put a lot of "twist" on the hinges, causing them to flex or move in ways they aren't supposed to.
That being said, one of my worries about purchasing the gx740 is the hinge quality. The gx740 is a modestly portable laptop (for a 17") and the hinges look under-sized to me. -
These are the first reports in years of the 17" having hinge problems, again they are very stirdy built but i find it odd now they are starting to go, i think your diagnosis of the "being able to twist" the hinges is accurate.

My current laptop (Asus a8js) is great, but the hinges are TERRIBLE. I have to pull the bezel off every 6-months, and apply lock-tite and re-screw down the hinges to the screen frame and case frame. Uggh.... not looking to repeat that.
So for current MSI 7XX owners, overall you're happy with the hinges? If were riding in a car and attempting to use this laptop, will the screen "bounce" front and back or does it remain pretty stable? -
