    Hi,

I've decided to buy a new MSI laptop. Either the GT725 or the GT627, depending on what I can get. I am currently in Taipei City, Taiwan. Does anyone have advice or experience buying from here?

Online buying from any Taiwanese source would also be acceptable. I just have no idea where to begin looking for a vendor in this foreign land. (i'm from california)

    thanks.

No experience with buying in Taiwan, but as far as I know MSI is a Taiwan company. So that should probably be good...shouldn't it?

So the GT627 and GT725 are not out here it seems. I think I will write an e-mail to MSI pleading for special privilege. Does anyone have experience dealing with their customer support? Do you think they'd make/sell me one if I asked nicely, and failing that, pestered them incessantly? Could I get them to put a P9500 core into a 725-074?

You might be out of look. Even though MSI headquarters may be based in Taiwan, I am certain they manufacture their laptops at many locations. If they don't make them in Taiwan, they will have to ship it, and thus MSI becomes just another international reseller. I also doubt they will assemble a single GT725-074US with a P9500. These things are built on assembly lines, not customized per each. Also consider that -074US is an American model, so as I stated before, if you want it they will have to just ship it.

Here is the Taiwan gaming series site. Doesn't seem to be any of the GTs there except for the 735. I was looking at the Asia and Europe sites too, but they do not state any of the submodels (e.g. -074US). Your best bet is to find resellers in the area and ask if they carry or will carry the GT725.

i saw one with the 1680x1050(i assume gloss), 500gb-5400rpm HD, 4gb ddr2 @667 (which is different than both -074 and -075, which are @800), intel p9500 cpu, and blu-ray on a british site.

Even then, you still have to ship international, unless you are willing to wait. I have a feeling that the G series will eventually be available in all areas, but it will be a while before that day.

I just hope they come out with a GT725 with the following:
1680x1050 Glossy 17", but I would take a 1900x1200 Glossy, or even matte
    intel p9500 2.53ghz 6mb L2 cache CPU
    320(or more)GB HD @7200RPM(has to be 7200 though)
4GB ddr2 (i think id prefer 800mhz, which would perform better?)
    DVD multi

    (a -074 with better cpu or a -075 without blu-ray)

That might be a tall order. Granted, I have seen the specs of very few models, but all seem to follow the trend that P9500 = Blu-ray

ASUS puts the t9400 in some of their non-blu-ray, so why cant MSI? /cry

I have a ps3, it seems like such a waste QQ

I just got a request from a friend to do some heavy video editing / post production/ dvd encoding. This might change my thoughts on the resolution. Might need to get that 1900x1200 screen. What are your thoughts on matte and glossy for gaming and editing?

Yes, well, you are talking about buying an MSI, not Asus :p Though if you are adamant about not getting Bluray, but still getting a P9500, you might be better off looking at some other manufacturers.
