    Hello,

I am about to start ordering stuff for my build. I have never before assembled a laptop, so this is gonna be fun :)

    Heres what I am ordering:

    MSI 1722 ID2 with ODD
    Intel C2D T9400 oem
    Arctic silver 5
    (all from ebay)

    then,
    OCZ 2x2gb DDR2 800 RAM
    WD Scorpio 320gigs 7200rpm
    (both from newegg)

Do I need to add the Intel 5300 card too? Will the native wireless (with less antennae I guess) work out of box?

Also, do I need extra heatsink/fans? Especially for the processor? I really dont know if the ebay ones come with any.

    Thanks!

there is no native wireless card on this computer. you have to have a wireless card. And currently your best bet is 5300. You don't need any heatsinks etc but you will need AS5 thermal paste for the CPU. Also you will need an operating system (doh!).

I personally tossed in a broadcomm a/b/g card I had lying around and it works awesomely.

If you are looking on ebay at the intel 5300 cards be aware that some of them are for Intel/HP motherboards only. These will not work in the MSI-1722. I have confirmed that. :-(

Thanks for the heads up! So no compatibility issues? I really havent used Vista yet, still using XP on my old laptop. XP compatibility was one of the reasons I went with the 1722.

Microsoft stopped giving away beta keys. Sorry.

EDIT: Nevermind. Microsoft has been recycling the same dozen or so keys over and over again. Google windows 7 keys.

There are only about 5-10 keys out there. I just used one of them. Google for it.

You may consider using Server 2008 as OS since it can be used up to 240 days for trial or students can use it freely by Dreamspark (as I intend to do)
