Just unpacked a brand new raider, plugged her in to find that the battery was stuck at 92% and not charging.

Ran the MSI battery conditioner, ran a Windows 10 battery report and here is what it is showing:

    NAME BIF0_9
    MANUFACTURER MSI
    SERIAL NUMBER -
    CHEMISTRY LION
    DESIGN CAPACITY 53,236 mWh
    FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 48,218 mWh
    CYCLE COUNT -

    53,236 Capacity with ONLY 48,218 Capacity ???
On a BRAND NEW Laptop ???
    What's up ???

Second question is color shift on the TN panel:
It shifts from a decent blue/white on top to a beige/white toward the bottom. I know that there is color shift to be expected on a TN panel... but this strikes me as a bit too much, thoughts ?

I'm interested in buying a Raider, can you show us the panel color problem?

Have you tried to contact MSI?

The screen goes from cool to warm on bottom with straight on viewing. I know it's a TN panel but I'm thinking this one was a lemon. MSI had no explanation for the battery issue except to say "Return it".

Only from the picture, I think too. It's really strange.

To me: a $2300 laptop had damn well have a decent screen. Speakers were excellent, keyboard / trackpad were great and screen was very good except for white pages (AOL, GOOGLE, CNN, ETC) where it was just highly annoying to see cool to warm.

Well, we do expect better than decent. Decent is low tier. ;)

Since no one can help, I'd also suggest returning it.

Return and ask for a refund, get it from someone else that will do an actual full QC check, HIDevolution does that for every laptop that they sell so that there won't be any hiccups for when the customers received their laptops.

Also if you're active here in the forum you can PM @Donald@HIDevolution for NBR member discount.

In the gentechpc showcase, we can see the screen. He doesn't state anything, but I think it's not like your picture.

We can see that the colors change when he moves the camera.

So... quick update to those interested in the GE63VR

I now have in my hands a second machine. The #2 machine is demonstrating 8% battery wear after 1 full charging cycle as reported by windows.

MORE Importantly: The screen is also showing a nasty yellow / grey fade out toward the bottom right (on white screens) very similar to the photo I posted of the first unit. I'm going to say again that I realize this is a TN panel but it's only 15 inches and I am viewing it straight on, no angle.

    Sorry to hear it.

Already ordered one from gentechpc, just need to win the lottery then? Not good.

Can you elaborate from where yours come from?

Noticed last night that the battery was at 91% and not charging. This morning turned it on and it was at 89%. Haven't really used it alot. Still working on getting bloatware removed before I really test it. Hopefully in the next couple of days.

I'm going to run the battery conditioner later when I have a chance and see what the result is.

Check your battery wear level through windows...

My question is: How is your screen??? Does it look yellow or dingy on white as you look from the top and pan down to the bottom???

My 1st unit had it on white screens on the bottom 3rd. The 2nd unit has it mostly on bottom right.

Ran battery calibration and battery is at 100%. Though the program shut down for some reason after the discharging. Took a long time for it to recharge though. At one point when I looked it said there was 4 minutes left. After 5 minutes it said there was still 4 minutes left. 1 minute left took 5 minutes. Not sure what is going on but it recharged to 100%.

Run the windows battery report and check the wear level. How are the white screens looking? Uniform, or changing hue toward the bottom ?

Did you open the laptop and look on the battery for the size?
If it's a 50 mwh battery, it should say so on it.

Just started the computer after sitting over night and the battery is at 98%. A power drain? Why?

Not sure why, but a lot of new machines seem to keep some devices alive or something because battery drains when powered off, at a very slow rate. I could go away for a week and return, and my laptop lost 10% charge or something.

This happens to me with my Surface Pro 2, my Lenovo P51 and my MSI GT73. It is normal.

Also, the laptop should not charge back up until it drops below 90%, so it is normal to find a message that says (Connected but not charging).

I just remembered... there was a situation with the GS series a while back, where a 10% of the battery itself was being reserved for a special function. Maybe this is also happening here. I will try to dig info up about it. The gist of it was that the system itself was "separating" 10% of the battery to use up for something. Users also reported having lower full charge capacity showing less % than it should, though their battery did full cycles of 0-100% of life.

Hmm...I never noticed it on my GT60. I did have to replace the original battery because it wouldn't hold a charge any longer. Replaced it and now the replacement is acting up. Will not let the computer start on battery. Can only run on battery if I start plugged in and then unplug. But this doesn't work all of the time.

If the drain is normal for the GE63 then I will not worry about it. It still charges up to 100%.

@Everson Santos Araujo Hey do you mind showing around your laptop , as in screen accuracy, temps under stress ? I'd really appreciate that. :)

Make sure you buy it from a reputable re-seller and you won't have these issues. There isn't a single laptop out there that all come perfect. If you buy it from someone reputable and not just Amazon or something, they will check the laptop before sending it out.

This is the main reason I always recommend going through the resellers like the great ones that participate on this forum :)

While Amazon is very convenient, they do not have the quality control available to check the inventory, so it is more common to experience particular issues that end up returning as brand new machines for other users to experience. I always buy my machines through the great resellers that offer, in my opinion, better customer support.

Why do the Raider models with the 1070 ship with a 180 Watt Power Supply. That's not like MSI to skimp on a PW. I would imagine it would get a 230 Watt.

Just for informational purposes, I have a bunch of Amazon gift cards so I want to get a laptop through Amazon but I also want to customize it.

I asked 3 different resellers if they would allow me to customize a system and then put on on Amazon using a private sale. Two of the manufacturers told me that they would do it for a fee of 4% but then XOTIC PC told me there would be no charge. Whatever my total came to on their website is the price they will sell it to me through Amazon.

If you are dead set on buying something through Amazon to either use gift cards or take advantage of 12 months interest free using a Prime Credit Card, I'd personally advise using XOTIC unless you feel like paying an extra $100 for nothing.
