Hello,
I want to update the bios of my MSI GT75Titan 8RF laptop installed in Raid0 by following the procedure described on your site, but the screen remains black and the bios does not update. I waited almost an hour with this black screen since it says that the black screen is normal and that you should not touch the laptop during this time. After an hour, I still restarted the system which reboots correctly. But the bios does not update.
Could you tell me what procedure you follow for your updates, if you have an alternative or what I can do to manage to update this bios?
Here is the procedure I followed:
"First, go into your BIOS and try to remember or write down all the settings that are currently in place, especially your boot mode if it was AHCI or RAID and any overclocking / undervolting settings you may or not have had.
1) Download the BIOS
2) Ensure that the ZIP file is NOT blocked by following this guide: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]
3) Unzip the file which contains the BIOS and place it in the root of C:
4) Reboot and enter BIOS by spamming the DEL key
5) Go to the Advanced Tab
6) From the bottom, you will find UEFI BIOS Update, click that
7) You will now see a list of your partitions, keep choosing one after the other until you locate the partition which has the BIOS file, you will be able to recognize it easily by looking through the list of files and locating the BIOS file name
8) Click on it and proceed with the update, you will be prompted to reboot, do that when prompted.
9) The BIOS will start updating, during the process, DO NOT turn off your laptop under any circumstance even if it stays with a black screen for a long time, let it continue.
10) You will eventually see the MSI Logo followed by another reboot, wait for that reboot then spam the DEL Key to re-enter BIOS
11) Your BIOS will be reset to defaults at this point so make sure to reset everything back the way it was ensuring you select the proper boot method (ie. AHCI or RAID)
Many thanks in advance

The screen remained black at what step?
When entering the BIOS Flash utility? -
Hello,
Sorry for the delayed response. When I want to flash the bios I validate ok with the UEFI command, the pc restarts and then nothing, it does not return to the bios and remains stuck on a black screen (step 8). I wait and nothing happens ... as I was stuck there I upgraded the firmware and reset the battery with a paperclip to the intended location and the laptop didn't turn on at all. I have tried everything but it looks like there is no power at all! The AC adapter apparently works, but the laptop does not start as if the battery was dead or whatever !!!
The laptop is still under warranty and must leave for RMA. But I need your help on how to update this bios when it comes back fixed. I do not understand why the display page remains black without a command prompt to launch the bios flash on restart.
Current bios: E17A3IMS.108 that I want to upgrade to E17A3IMS.113.
EC firmware installed v.17A3EMS1.103
Thanks in advance! -
BIOS update should be done from the BIOS updater itself, not from Windows.

Yes of course, that's what I did. (I have other pc of which I flashed the bios without problem). I never do it from windows. I wanted to flash the bios to try and fix an unrecognized USB devices issue. I also though updating the firmware might fix this problem. Before trying to flash the system I reinstalled Windows 10, updated the latest Intel chipset and the drivers. But still the same problem with external USB HHDs.

unrecognized USB devices issue is either a Driver issue or a Device issue, its very very rare its a BIOS issue.

External USB HDD might need extra power that the USB port by itself isn't capable of delivering, try either a new cable, or grab one of those 2 into one cables to supply extra current to you external HDD.

Hello,
Thanks for your answers.
I was slow to respond because my laptop was gone in RMA MSI ... motherboard replacement. Now I was able to update the bios and firmware without any problem. For the undetected SATA3 HDD Dock Station i am posting a new topic to find out how i could detect it on my laptop.
Thanks again!
