I have currently my MSI GT73VR, with 6700HQ, GTX1080, 16GB RAM and 120Hz display. Which one would be the successor having more or less the same specs but 9th gen cpu and maybe GeForce 20 series. I find that if I have chrome running in the background some games like Overwatch slow down from 120 FPS to 66 or something like that, looks like the CPU is quite a bit old, and can't replace it because it's soldered on the motherboard. What I like about the screen is that even being 120Hz, the quality is really good, which is not the case with TN or other panels.

Which newer notebook do you recommend me?

Clevo P870 TM-R from HIDEvolution. There's nothing else worth buying anymore.

MSI WT75 has full socketed hardware and allows you to use a 9900K CPU with a much better CPU cooling than any of their BGA jokebooks, but while you can forgo the super expensive Quadro and put a GTX 1070 in there (ask the moderator on the WT75 thread about it, if the WT's 1070 compatible Quadro heatsink will work, I believe it will), I have NO idea how either the GT73VR 1080 or the MSI 16L13 (aka GT83VR type) 1080 will fit in there. Both have a different form factor---16L13 type has a "flipped" core 1080 (die in the middle), while the GT73VR 1080 has the die by the connector (very similar to the 1070), but offset compared to the 1070. And on one of those heatsinks, the LGA socket will be blocked (I have no idea about the other one).
If the Quadro 1080 equivalent has a flipped GPU core in the middle, there's no way in hell you will get your 1080 to work unless you can custom build a heatsink for both the GPU and VRAMs and VRMs (and VRM's need special attention, don't want to risk heat damage).

If you're interested in last gen graphics and TDP modding the 1080 a tiny bit, please send a PM to @ win32asmguy Ask him if the GT73VR/GT75VR form factor of the 1080 (which you already have) could possibly fit in the WT75. This depends on the layout of the Quadro "1080" heatsink. The 16L13 / GT83VR version won't--the heatsink has no way to be installed properly.
If you could get it working, you could probably save a ton of money and get a "barebones" WT75 with no CPU or GPU and use your 1080 and a 9900K. Otherwise there is no reason to choose a MSI anything over a Clevo P870 TM-R.

No idea if TM-R can use off the shelf Nvidia drivers for their RTX 2080 space invaders, or if it requires modification to avoid Code 43.

GT76 has a 9900K LGA but soldered graphics. And there seem to be rumors about a 170W power limit on the CPU. The Bios unlock code still works but no idea if power limits higher than 170W or VR Current Limit set to 1023 would bypass that, and no one has tested it either, and I have no access to hardware so you're on your own.

@Falkentyne unfortunately I think you have the 1080 compatibility with the WT75 backwards - the larger card from the GT73VR cannot fit because it would interfere with the CPU socket / heatsink. However, the smaller flipped 1080 pulled from a GT83VR or 16L13 should fit and should be compatible with the Quadro P5200 heatsink. I saw a picture posted previously of the WT75 P5200 and it uses the same flipped design of the GTX 1080.

That being said, the GTX 1070 with a TDP mod works great and is pretty close to GTX 1080 performance and much cheaper and simpler to source. Here is a 3dmark result from the best I could do with mine when I had it. https://www.3dmark.com/fs/18693725

Is the P870TM-R worth the extra $800 cost compared to the P775TM-R? Also it looks like the GPU isn't covered by HID's usual extended warranty without a $750 per year surcharge.

    Clevo P870 is EOL.
GT75 is actually the successor to GT73VR, the only difference is GT75 has mechanical keyboard and no SLI because nVidia killed it.

MSI WT75 is a magnificent chassis imo but it could be difficult to get one for a good price as it is EOL now according to somebody I spoke to at MSI.

Still the WT75 and a vapor chamber 870 of the last generation would be fine if a GTX1080 is enough for you with the 870 definitely being available for less, especially with a 1070 that as has been mentioned above can do very well if it is opened up.

If you want to movie up to RTX cards then I 100% agree with Falkentyne that the 870 TM-R is the only current generation laptop worth having if you are not into BGA cancer anymore AND in need of a decent cooling solution. Maybe a successor to the WT75 would be a worthy rival but no idea if and when it will be released. I left out the Alienware 51 by the way as I am not quite sure how reliable it is, from what I can see there are too many reports of problems.

Finally if it does not have to be BGA for both CPU and GPU then you have a huge selection to choose from, especially when you are also open to look at smaller screen sizes.
