So I wasn't a big dan of these cooling pads and all, but after hearing stories of the GX640 running hot and the fact that I'm spending over $1,000 on this thing, I really want to take care of it. Plus, I hear the location of the pads fans also play a role in all of this..

Just wondering what you guys are using and if it's helped out or not.

PS: I'm also going to use a USB keyboard for the laptop. Do you guys recommend a cover for the original keyboard on the system (to keep out dust and what-not)? Or do you guys think thats a bit excessive or it'll make the system hotter.

The cooling pad is not going to make a real difference, if you really want to take care of it then, you'll need a nice thermal re-paste and if you daring enough then maybe mod the back panel of the laptop, that'll cut the temps by 15*c at the least.
The covering the keyboard is not really required.

I use the enermax aeolus for my notebook and it works really well because of it's one big fan. I've also heard good things about the zalman coolers.

Coolermaster X2 fits a GX640 well. Central fan, variable speed, and you can rest it on your lap without blocking the input vents.

Taking the big bottom panel off and setting it on a cooler like the Massive23ST drops the temperature by 10C when idle and 20C under load. No joke.

Can't go wrong with a ZALMAN 2000 or a CRYO NZXT which is my cooler of choice.

I don't see how these are any different from one another. As long as you have this big like 20-25cm fan and decent spin rate... unless of course you want things like USB ports.

I use it, I bought it for my 17" P6831FX, but it works fine with the GX640, the cooling vents line up pretty good, I put a thin strip of wood under the rear legs to raise the laptop a tad. works good.
