If you did buy your GX640 from xoticpc, or if you're a California purchase, care to share your experience (deals, prices, shipping in double boxes, etc) ? Most importantly, did they ship it double-boxed (concealed)??

    Thank you thank you

So you paid straight up with creditcard? Not paypal? Cuz when I go to the cart, and checkout using paypal, it takes me to the paypal login page, and reduces my total from 1187 to 1151. I dont think you have to do e-check like Justin said on the phone, it just has to be a valid paypal account.

i used credit, my dad thought it'd be safer than anything else, and I trust my dad so yeah. $30 wasn't a huge deal to me.

1187 if paid for with credit. 1152 with paypal. true, 35 aint much for the security. but paypal is pretty secure too.

Did you guys get different thermal compounds? I think I'm going to order mine with IC Diamond... yeah it could be $35 wasted, but it'll be nice for comparison. Ordering mine from Xotic tonight :)

mine is in stage 2 from xotic. anxiously awaiting stage 3 (shipping)

EDIT: So far xotic has had great customer service. a friendly reminder that my telephone number was wrong (stupid typos) via email, then a few hours later (after updating phone number) i received a call confirming my order, and letting me know it's moving into stage 2.

Yah, I'm very confused too. I spoke to and exchanged emails with Justin @ xotic. I hope this is the same Justin that everyone here "knows" and "trusts." It makes absolutely no sense to me. Lets see what he says in his email though.

Talk to you tomorrow CoRex going to bed now :)

I got a message saying the shipment of gx640s that came in today, which mine was in, would not come with the MSI backpacks. As they state: The main purpose of this email is to notify you that MSI cut out the backpack from the shipment of the machines and has said that they will not be providing it with this model. XoticPC did not have foreknowledge of this reduction and apologizes for any inconvenience it may have caused you.

All fine and good, but I'd like a price reduction on that. Xotic was slightly more expensive than gentech or RK to cali, but one of the reasons I went this route was free backpack :(

    Sucks about the backpack :(

But for the paste, bear in mind this is via reseller, not msi.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath, don't know how many peeps they have working on upgrades, but they burn 'em in. I emailed 'bout the backpack and asked if I could swap out for a 6-cell battery. The pics from RK show the 9-cell sticking out like a tumor.

I've had a laptop with a similar 9-cell battery for the last three years, and it's really not an issue. The battery sticks out maybe 3/4 of an inch from the back, and most of the time I don't even think about it.

Most people consider the 9-cell a good thing. Kind of ironic that the 9-cell is intended to help the machine be more portable but at the same can get in the way when putting it in a bag for transport.

With the 9-cell, the MSI GX640 has nearly the best battery life out there for a full-fledged gaming laptop.

I asked Xotic today when I can expect my laptop to ship and they said hopefully by Thursday (mine is customized too). I asked for 1 day shipping when I ordered it so I hope I will get it by Friday as I'm going on a trip for 2 weeks!

@ dookie11, I guess we are censored here on what we are allowed to think or ask? The Thermal compound VS CPU upgrade question I posted that you replied to last night was deleted. Kind of ODD don't you think?

Did you find out any more, I was busy today and did not have a chance to call any sellers and ask. I will try tomorrow.

I think it was probably copyright-related issues due to the posting of the contents of an e-mail. I hate copyright...
In fact, it's against the forum rules:
"Do not post content from private correspondence, such as email or chat, within the forums. Posting any other persons private information such as email, phone number or address could result in banning."

    Ya, my bad on that.

Anyhoo, I spoke to xotic, and they said they are offering the thermal compound upgrade now, which will not void the warranty. MSI computers no longer have the warranty sticker on the outside. However, he never answered my question about self-upgrades or cleaning for dust. I sent him another email, so let's see.

Also, about the backpack and price. 1123.65 was good for coming with a backpack, vs. 1149 from gentech is still good, even after taxes/shipping to cali. Xotic doesnt charge tax, so just +28 = 1152. And gentech charges tax but no shipping = 1272, or 1279 if they tacked on the CA recycling fee (I forgot if they did or not).

Wonder if xotic will drop the price since no backpack. Or do free thermal upgrade.

P.S. how do we know they really did a thermal upgrade? Where's the proof?

    Thanks.

I believe you quoted a post where e-mails were posted, however. If it was the content of your post that was the problem, the admins wouldn't have been so silly as to leave dookie11's post quoting your post, would they?

There's a hardware and upgrade section , why don't you post there ?

I'm glad some got deleted , there's still some that needs to go. Too many threads regarding one single notebook in here.

Yes, some threads need to go. Having different threads for every seller that you can buy the notebook from is really redundant.

Why don't you guys just take the initiative to look up the warranty yourselves and contact msi? These warranties are not reseller specific. The answers to your questions have also already been answered several times on these forums. (Just to point out again to we should have only one thread)
