I did few upgrades in my laptop which is Advent 7555.

I would like to overclock CPU a bit inside is q9200ES at the moment working at max 2.6GHz

I know i could use setfsb etc but prefer if it was done from under Bios there is no settings to overclock the CPU at the moment thats why i would like to flash bios with some unlocked if exist.

Installed bios at the moment is A1722IDI ver1.0P

    my questions:

is there a chance of overclocking the cpu from under existing Bios without flashing new moded one?

is there some moded bios i could use to flash my Advent to help me over-clock the CPU ?
If flashing will go wrong or new bios wont work will I be able to re flash it ?

which tools should I use to back up existing bios and flash new one ?

    thanks

Why don't you use Throttlestop. Works great with the Q9200. Some models can go up to 3.2GHz or even higher.

I tried it and yeah i over clocked to bit over 3ghz the thing is that to use throttlestp it has to be started forever at windows start-up and work in the background right? so i thought it would be better to unlock in some way bios

Its not better in any way at all. If you were changing the multiplier in the BIOS you'd be doing the exact same thing.
FSB overclocking can be hardmodded permanently and some people consider it to be more efficient. But then you are overclocking the RAM too, so you'll have to find a way to downclock it to compensate.

The reason most people get q9200 is so you can easily control the frequency with software. It would be totally silly if your machine was just like a desktop, with 10x better cooling, option to change FSB and RAM speed in the BIOS, then all you'd need is a 1/2 priced q9100 with locked multipliers.

    ok serious question :)

    Throttlestop is working fine

what happen after disabling in Bios intel c state tech and inel speed step i discovered something

throttlestop has changed settings in Bios fsb i have set throttlestop to 11.5 then restarted windows went to bios to check info and it show max fsb 9 current 12, speed 3.2 Ghz booted to windows without starting throttlestop settings reminded 3.2Ghz in windows until I reset Bios by loading deafult settings

does throttle stop change Bios too ? cuz in Bios i see 3.2Ghz and in windows the same and Throttlestop isnt even started LOL

TS does not have the ability to change any of your BIOS settings, even permanently.

well if i take pic will you believe me ? i cant believe it myself LOL

ok will take pic in 5 min and then you will see it my bios has no ability to change ratio fsb cpu speed is standard bios i just used Throttlestop and the ratio has changed in bios to 12 !!! 3.2Ghz !

to add more I have set Throttlestop to 11.5 2.9Ghz but magically it has changed Bios to 12 and i rebooted windows few times and the ratio in bios stays 12 until i reset bios to default wait few min i will take pic

What happens when you re-enable the options you disabled? Still 3.2ghz or 2.4ghz in BIOS?

not sure how but ram work a bit faster too from 7.1 to 7.3 windows score

new discovery. i am basically new to overclocking :) and just tested TS once more i cant set ratio over 12 in TS if i set 10.5 the CPU speed will be 2.8Ghz on CPUz if i set 11.5 the CPU speed will be 3.1 Ghz on CPUz then i close TS without saving or saving and restart Windows go to Bios and the speed remain 3.2Ghz no matter how i set TS 2.8Ghz or 3.1 Ghz the speed in Bios is always 3.2 Ghz. basically when i start windows and i start TS i can manipulate the speed up to 3.1Ghz and the CPUz will show different speed depends on how I set TS but after rebotting the speed increasse to 3.2 Ghz without touching anything at all and TS wont be started at all.

3.2Ghz will remain until I reset Bios to default.

anyway 3.2 is enough cus i just did benchmark and the temp goes to 65C no need for more speed.

The CPU maximum multiplier that ThrottleStop lets you adjust must be maintained during a reboot. Not all motherboards or bios versions support this feature. Enjoy your overclock. :)

It would be easier to add ThrottleStop to your startup sequence so it can unlock your CPU and then you can use the ThrottleStop ExitTime=5 INI option. This will cause ThrottleStop to automatically exit 5 seconds after it unlocks your CPU. Also uncheck the "Do Not Reset FID/VID on Exit" option and then you can use your unlocked CPU with the Windows Balanced profile for the best of both worlds. Fast CPU with low idle power consumption.
