Hey there. I'm in the market for a new laptop and I've been checking out the MSI GT780DX. My budget is meant to be $1050 and so I thought it was out of my price range, but after some browsing I came upon Best Gaming Computer | Best Gaming Laptop | Cheap Gaming Laptop Computers | Gaming Notebook | Pro-Star.com.

From there, I customised a GT780DX-PS1 like this:
    17.3" 1920 x 1080 Full HD (16:9) LED Backlit Matte Type Display
    Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor
    Memory 8GB, PC3-10600/1333Mhz DDR3 - 2 x 4GB
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M w/1.5GB GDDR5
    500GB/7200rpm 16MB Cache
    Without Operating System
    No Microsoft Office
    8X Max. DVD±R/RW Writer/Reader / 4X Max. +DL Super-Mulit Drive
Battery MSI 9 Cells Li-ION Battery
    Intel Wireless-N 130 + Bluetooth Combo
Prostar 1 Year U.S. Premium Parts and Labor Warranty

And the price is only $1,169, which is significantly cheaper than most other places (possibly because there is no OS; the price increases a fair amount if I decide I want Windows 7).

    However, a couple of points:
    1) When checking out, my shipping quote is $0 (they give free shipping to people in the US), despite my address being in the UK
    2) International buyers are only allowed to pay through wire transfer
    3) For people who want to pay through Paypal, it isn't through the website, they will email you a Paypal invoice
Also, the website isn't listed in the MSI FAQ thread which has most other sellers in it. I might just be being a bit skeptical, but it's still a lot of money... Anyone got any experience with this website?

I'd prefer to buy through XoticPC, but for the same specs as listed above (without the blu ray but with an OS), the price totals $1506 (or $1460 with cash discount).
....And then the postage is $219, putting it massively out of my price range.

Any ideas? (Or anyone know where I can get it for a bit cheaper?) They're going for like £1,400 in the UK so even with the stupid postage it's still cheaper from the USA...

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: what's the deal with laptop sellers not accepting Paypal? XoticPC want wire transfer/a check too.. Ugh.

    It's probably for safety measures..

They accept Paypal in the US, but when it comes to international..

They are cautious, as it means a good chunk of money for them too.

I guess so. I guess I just wasn't sure why international buyers through paypal are likely to be dodgier, haha. :p

I'm actually looking at the PowerPro R 12:17 now, from powernotebooks. I didn't realise it was the 780 barebones. I read everywhere that only the 780 has the backlit keyboard, but the product page for it reads "Backlit Steelseries Keyboard available" - I'm guessing this means they've updated it? Hmm.

Maybe they updated it, try asking them via PM.

They are here in the MSI and Sager forums.

Yeah, they have. After I clicked 'customise' it came with an option to add the backlit keyboard for $120. Pretty cool.

I think I'll probably end up going with the PowerPro. :)

It is built off a MSI barebones and has the option to add the Steelseries backlit keyboard. That makes it very similar to a MSI branded computer except for the Dyna Audio wont be included.

Paypal unfortunately isnt accepted by alot of resellers for international orders. As mentioned is it because of paypal seller protection for international orders, which is pretty much no protection.

    Dear Nina-9,

I do not recommend you to buy from us. We offer 1-year US Warranty only for MSI white book (or white box) unit. I recommend you to consider MSI GT780DX-406US. This model has backlit keyboard and MSI 1-year Global Warranty (2-year U.S. warranty).

We do not want to take Paypal, because we only ship to Paypal confirmed address. Paypal has difficulty to confirm an address when you are outside the U.S.A. However, I could be wrong.

Please be aware that you are buying an US version of gaming laptop. Power cord (jack to poweroulet) is different. And we have US keyboard only, not UK keyboard.

    Thank you.

    Who is right?

This dealer lists Dynaaudio as included in barebones Whitebooks
    GenTech PC - Systems

Both the MS-16F2 and the MS-1761 barebones do have Dynaudio speakers the same as the branded model.

That is correct...Dynaudio Tech Speakers are also in the MS 16F2 and MS 1761.

Pro-star is also correct in that only US keyboards are available from a US reseller.

PayPal is not accepted for international orders by any US reseller we know of...only Bank Wire Transfer (T.T.) or Western Union Money Transfer are accepted.

We agree with RK computers. We phsycial examine the models and confirm the speakers.

We test all the units over 72 working hours before we ship out. So we do know the specification is correct.

I'm watching this thread closely. Careful in wording what you put to the public, they represent your company on these forums.

If this flaming war continues in a childish manner I will have to close this thread.
