So we already heard the stories, GT 72 can't be upgraded with pascal blah blah.

Since I'm late to the party I decided to make it more interesting. Most people just bought a 1060 and a custom heatsink, well I decided to go for modding the stock heatsink.

For those who want to upgrade their GT 72 without purchasing a 150USD heatsink heres how you do it:
Grind the red marked places down to it's about the same height as the rest.

    My result after some grinding:

Temps are extremely good, mid 50s to low 60s on demanding long gaming sessions.

    Stock with +10 TDP:

    Casual Overclock with +10 TDP:
    https://www.3dmark.com/fs/17931469

    All in all pretty satisfied.
@sicily428 Another one for your list.

Oh my God, what a great gpu temperature!

Was it with fans rpm like what, 3600? Was it maybe on cooling pad? And what was the ambient temperature?
Mine 1060 from msi stays ~70° when i use it in games(stock fans). It's the same you showed above.

I did a few tests today to compare the results. I even had to update the graphics card drivers to the latest ones
to have the most similar configurations to that one which Dan has.
And I must confess to you guys that I am very sad, my MSI gtx1060(mxm) card with the standard vbios:
gets 1000 points lower graphic result in the FS test then the one from Danishblunt...

Well... we have identical graphics cards, identical driver versions, and the difference of a 1000 GS points, between our versions of stock vbioses.
In order to achieve similar points results in the graphics test, I need to increase the card core by 180Mhz.

That's why I'd like to ask you guys, what am I doing wrong with my notebook that I have so low performance results?
And can Someone explain to me this:

Please? Wrong id in mod inf file or what?
Here is a direct comparison of our results:

I have rather agressive fans setup. I believe its around 75% when reaching low 50s. Ramping up to 100% on 65.
No coolerpad, altho I could run it on a coolerpad and see how that goes.
Well try to beat the casual OC score :'D

I made myself some modded desktop drivers, so I renamed my card 1060 Ti, could have called it YoloCard3000Rocktz if I wanted to :D

Okay, so you used the modified drivers. What is the reason for such a high core clock speed at stock vbios?
Have you modified the tdp limits/temps?

If I had then I'd be around 15K in graphics score. Sadly the 1060 requires desoldering to get modded, which I kinda am way to lazy to do especially when I have a system with a 1070.

Or a GT72s-6QE or QF depends on what the card was before hand.

    If it was a GTX 970m it's a 6QD if it's a GTX980m it was a QE if it was a GTX980 it would be 6QF I think if I remember correctly

    Correct,

Also I might have uninteionally lied. I flashed a very long time back a vBios that ups the vBios by 10W. I simply forgot it, so it's not entirely stock.
So forget the stock part :p

Just did a nice lovely benchmark with @kothletino vbios, its so knee capped performance wise bu nice for temps.

Its also a Vbios that starts with 55AA instead of 4E56 but thats another story.

However nice one @Danishblunt welcome to the party all be it slightly late.

Okay then, so the +1k points mystery is solved.
Is using the programmer still the only way to upload the modified vbios on 1060 guys?

Yes hardware programmers are the only way to flash modded GPU vbios's however i am still going to see what the vBios of yours can do. Hence why i asked for it. I can do all the test needed to see if that is why your seeing lower scores.

@Danishblunt here is a screen for you.
