    Hi,

I am in the process of an upgrade to my old gt60 (16f3) and would appreciate any help with a couple of things i'm struggling with. The laptop has a GTX770M card fitted, which works fine. It uses the original heatsink that was fitted with the factory fitted gtx675mx. I want to fit a gtx970m and have since sourced a gt70 heatsink for gtx970m/980m cards, this should fit without hassle .. i think.. but if i'm wrong, i'd appreciate any advice with this too..

Issues i'm struggling with otherwise are card type. My laptop has a 51x modded bios (needed for the gtx770m to work properly) so think i'm ok there but i've read somewhere of issues with 6gb 970m cards flashed with msi vbios and optimus not working. Should i look for a 3gb card only? A card that has an optimus supported vbios? Are there modded vbios that allow optimus functionality with 6gb cards??

Whatever the memory size, 1st choice is an MSI card, 2nd choice Clevo and avoid dell/alienware - afaik these cards cannot be flashed with msi vbios but like i said, i'd really appreciate any advice. I've did ok so far... but been scratching my head about the gpu questions (and trying to find a suitable candidate) I've asked same q on msi forum too, unfortunately think the laptops just too vintage for most modders to remember now!

If anyone remembers their old gt60 and fitting gtx970m cards.. i'd be delighted to hear from u

    I helped a friend migrate a GT70 barebones/whitebook model with a 970m (forgot if 3gb or 6gb) but it was a Clevo version.

We only needed to flash the GT70 to the 71X version, (yours is 51X, as you said). After having both the correct BIOS/EC for the laptop, and properly installing the GPU (we modified the heatsink). It worked fine. We didn't flash the vbios as far as I remember, but I could be wrong.

Your GT60 should be the same.

    Hi ryzeki,

Just realised you'd replied, I havent spent any time on this project recently but my card eventually arrived last week. It's a Clevo 6gb card, i've got a heatsink due next few days so all should be ready to go soon.

I think my laptops bios should be ok.. and if the clevo card will allow nv drivers to be installed and optimus (and whatever else..) to work fine with its own vbios, this would be great. I'll continue reaserching as much as i can before fitting the card, and i'll let you know how things go.

    Appreciate the feedback,

    Thanks
