Just to share my experience - since I got it (on my MSI725), I was constantly confronted with performance glitches and slow downs during gaming (hugely disappointing). I had try all - Vista 32/64bit, XP 32/64bit, win 7 32bit (64bit is not supported, at least I couldn't find all the drivers for my machine). Presently running win 7 32bit.... all with same problem - slowing down during gaming that was looking like Overheating...
How to Fix ATI HD 4850 Mobile Performance issues or slow down problems while playing
Resolution: I found modded drivers 10.5 of catalyst from tweakforce.com (XG Mobile Cats 10.5 Win7/Vista). Go to Catalyst Control Center and go to ATI Overdrive section - I had to reduce the memory clock to 450 Mhz from the default 850 in order to get this baby stable. That downclock fix the problem, at the same time I was able to clock UP the GPU to 530 from the original 500 Mhz. Now I can enjoy my games at full HD with High details and even some multi sampling. (Dirt2 is running at 1920x1080 on Ultra-High profile with 2 x Multi Sampling average FPS is 30, good for playing and really beautiful, also COD MW2 is smooth and pretty)

64 bit is supported , and you don't need to go through MSI's website for drivers either...
Tried these ? ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver -
Downclocking is not a good solution. When you paid for the computer you paid for a stable computer, not something that would break after a while. Now, I can understand if its out of warranty, but you could at least try to do what mostly works which is to clear the fans out of dust and maybe replace the thermal paste on the GPU. Cleaning the fans is extremely easy, although replacing the thermal paste might be tricky; I recommend to watch some youtube videos about it.
If you simply downclock it, the dust build up on the fans or the degrading of the thermal paste will eventually catch up and you will have to downclock again. -
Hi Purlpo, thanks for your reply!
I cleaned the fan again and when I checked the thermal pads, I was very surprised to find out that it is all hard and crispy. After reapplying the thermal paste, it is now working much better. I put it back on original specs and is going smooooth baby.
Thanks for the link Dead2th3world, I wasn't having problems installing Video drivers on 7/64bit - there was something else that my machine didn't support it and I gave up... I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't video or sound...thanks anyway. Let me know how you like it on 7/64bit, any problems or things that you can no longer do?
Cheers,
